html and css and other stuff??

erm, can anyone please tell me how html and css are connected.

Should I know them both well or is html more important.??

Also, would some one be kind enough to tell me which basic skills are of THE upmost importance in this business as there are so many things you need to learn its kinda hard to know where to start. I myself have started with the html and i know i am a million miles away from really gettin into this biz so i suppose i would like to find out which skills are the basic building blocks for future success, thanx y'all

Hey mate,

CSS is a stylesheet. Basically what it is, is a set of properties you can apply to things in a HTML page.

For example... you have a number of hyperlinks on your website. By default they are blue with an underline right? and when visited they turn purple? Well you can add a stylesheet to your hyperlinks, which tells it all links on your site are pink and when you visit them, they turn green. This is a brief example, but it can be applied to virtually anything within a HTML site from borders, images, banners and even layout. It just ads more flexibility to your site and allow you to change the 'styles' of your site easier. So basically, it is pretty essential to know BOTH CSS and HTML if you want to design your own web pages which look nice.

Now what do i think you are most beneficial knowing in this business? Well... after you know your way around HTML and CSS pretty comfortably, i would suggest you then learn PHP. Alot of web scripts and web software these days use PHP, and it is really handy to know. This is the backend and guts of most websites.

Along with the technical stuff, i'd do some research on marketing. Not only internet marketing, but marketing in general. after all, that is what this business is about.

Good luck, and have fun.

Yeah well depending on if you like to let other people do the technical work for you (personally i like to do most things myself so i know they are right) then yeah, you don't have to worry about turning yourself into a web developing guru and can concentrate more on strategies, personally i think having a clever mind in modern marketing is the most essential thing to have.

But you will still definitely have to know HOW the technology works if you will be selling off it.

For me:
HTML is strictly for forming and displaying content. It's a way to tell search engine exactly what your page is about.

CSS is a way for me to layout and apply colors and styles to these pages.

If your just starting out though. Learn HTML and do everything through it. Once your comfortable with html, start learning css. They both use a diffrent syntax and could be confusing for a newbie to learn at the same time.
