Have google just reindexed
The reason I ask is that I had a good thing going, I was number 1 in over 1.2 Million for a good search term, and next thing I know, I have literally disappeared. No one else seems to have moved just my site. There was no funny business, all good info etc etc.
That has cost me about 4000 hits a day. The only thing that has changed is that my meta verify tag got lost from the main page got lost from the main site about 2 weeks ago. To say im pissed off is a major understatement. All that hard work wasted!

Welcome to the wonderful world of google and blogging. I have about 5 blogs in 2 different niches that were each pulling about 3000 uniques a day. Now they've dropped to around 200. Can find them after ten pages deep on my select keyword searches. Now on the other hand, 10 other blogs I hardly promote have jumped from around 100 hits a day to around 1200. Go figure. It's time to promote other niches and new sponsers

Re: Have google just reindexed
StueyB you are not alone. Few days ago one of my sites disappeard too from top keyphrases. I have now 200 visits instead of 2400. I'm sure in 95% that my domain got penalty from google on those top keyphrases.
Check your domain if it is banned if not you probably got some penalty on that domain. |

Check your PR and see if it's still there... if you've been penalized, your PR would drop to a zero or be non-existant.
It's likely they are just dancing, moving things around, and re-indexing. Like balls said, you can't rely on Google alone. You have to get links from other places and work hard to get other sources of traffic. And I think a source of traffic that hardly ever gets mentioned here that's very important are the bookmarkers. You need to make sure your site has value so that people are choosing to re-visit your site again and again, and that means, no matter what happens with Google, you will always have that great core of people to draw on. |

Hi everyone,
Just to elaborate.. I checked a few things and my traffic dropped from 15th. My PR is still there at 2. However google is complaining it cannot find robots.txt which has been there for months untouched. I'm wondering if google fails safe when it sees a robots.txt and can't read it, it doesn't attempt to index the site? No idea on that one. So I have done what I can to repair it, fixed the errors, large and small and will just keep my fingers crossed. I don't think the two are related. Who knows. I do have other sources of traffic but none of them nowhere near as big!

This is why I keep saying the most important thing to do is link,, and link,,,, and link!
I'd say 70% of my traffic comes from links, and it goes up each day,,, cause I add links each day. Just think if you added one link a day what your traffic would be like in a year. But to add that many links to a blog, you need to use different sidebars and sections to your site. Like if it's a babe site, have blond babes, big tit babes, twin babes and so on. Then make each section it's own sidebars. THEN gets links from big tit sites to go on your big tit babe section, blond sites go on your blond babe section and so on. Plus, the more you link the better google sees you, and more SE traffic you get. Win win!

I don't think anything bill said is top secret, and it doesn't begin to explain why blogs do the drop and rise google rollercoaster ride.
All I can say to stuey is that in the past, all my blogs have fallen into rock bottom and most that were high in hits have come back up again and then fallen and then come back up again. I think Google is now using the Comus thumbs click system lately LOL

I think you're right.Stu, I used to start threads like this each time google did an update or whatever brouhaha they do and my sites would get hit badly but the boys are right, you can't rely on google traffic. Like Porn Punk said it's pretty much a roller coaster. I did lose out on a couple of smaller sites this week that probably won't make too much of a dent in my income. But I lost 90% of the traffic to a site that was doing stellar just a month ago. For whatever reason I'm not too concerned about this at the moment as I'm trying very hard not to get stressed out over whatever crisis du jour hits. Bill and Balls Deep, call me stupid but I kind of didn't fully understand the golden technique you guys spoke of. One way links inbound links are what matters, no? So where do you build your links from, just from an interior maze of your own sites? I might have to send you a PM. Having agreed, here's what I DON'T get in the following issues, which is what I mentioned before - isn't the whole point of blogging to get the SE hits? Also, reciprocal links will probably do nothing for your PR as far as I can tell. Third, you'll be giving away too much stuff. Not sure if that's even an issue anymore since there's so much free content out there. Fourth, it's always said to find other people to exchange links with etc who are in your niche. Isn't that giving the surfer all the more opportunity to get even more free stuff? And going back to TGP land? And isn't it also then you're hoping YOUR site over the other guy's site will be the one that gets the surfer to sign up? I still have to figure a lot of this stuff out but I have been doing only one thing consistently - building more sites, because during these updates and changes from the SEs, you need to spread yourself fairly wide. (Whoops, that last line sounded like porn copy) |

recips make a hell of a difference in google's eyes. So do inbounds, but as i've said before you should be trading for traffic and not page rank. Stop trying to beat google and start building a site to sell porn.

The PR you see in your toolbar is useless. As far as SE traffic, as other said in this topic and as I've said a few time here in the past. Never sit back and depend on SE traffic.
SE traffic is just something extra and it never stays rock solid. |

The PR may be useless, but what it does tell him is that his site has not been banned by Google. It's just one more clue in figuring out what Google is doing with his page in their index.
I think you should focus, like everyone has suggested, on other methods of generating traffic to the site while you wait for Google to pull it's head out of it's arse. Google is very up and down and you cannot rely heavily on it to always send you traffic. As you've now discovered, traffic from google can be very up, and then it can be very down. |

I used to have a consistent top spot for a 5.8/mil result keyword as well as several other keywords that were related. I used to sit between number 1 & 3 all the time. Was a awesome keyword too then one update I got taken out of the mix. I'm talking from being number one to not even showing up on the listing. I still had PR and all that good stuff just no more sweet spots at google. Being it was a very competitive keyword, I have no doubt in my mind that my site was manually removed from their index. To this day I still can't get back on the 1st page or even close with that domain. Now with this last update one of the main pages on the site went from PR 3 to 0. It was just starting to pull some decent SE traffic again too. Now it's almost nothing again. I'm not doing anything black hat and hell I don't ever trade links on the site. There is no doubt in my mind that for what ever reason someone at google is hitting my site with a manual penalty. |

Monitor your inbound links and the sites linking to you, if a site your linking to gets banned from the index stop linking to it. If some one stops linking to you remove there link. Use noindex links where you can so you don't give away PR. I personally find sites get indexed faster when i use a google site map and have the meta verify tag in place. Analyze the sites in the top ten and see what they are doing differently match or beat all seo factors. It could be your site was ranked to high and is now in its proper place

Has it ever! ALL of my sites took a wallop yesterday and today. I have a feeling and fingers x-d that it's temporary and some will get up and some will stay hurting for a bit.
