Are Things Going to Pick Up After the US Elections?
I don't know about the rest of you guys, but despite decent traffic, my sales have been WAY down the past couple of weeks ever since the financial panic and what not. So today I perused one of my favourite books, "Extraordinary Popular Delusions and the Madness of Crowds" by Charles McKay.
I do think that there is a general state of panic going on at the moment. Even for people who don't hold mortgages, own stocks, or are in any way affected by the financial mess, this is trickling down into even our fav industry: vice! I heard on the telly that one stock that went up quite a bit is Campbell's - as in the soup. "Comfort food" consumption is up not just because of comfort but economy. If people really are behaving this way, whether they are affected by it or not (oil prices are down but few are rejoicing), then when are things going to calm down in the collective subconscious? Once Obama wins?

It's a one party system masking itself as a two party system.
They're all frauds. Obama will win, but ..............Business as usual........ CHANGE? HAH! Maybe he'll manage to bring some of our boys home though! I don't really think that people plug porn costs into their household finances...... That's the beauty of impulse buyers!

Oh I'm with you all the way, J. Are they all frauds? You betcha! I'm just terrified of Elmer McCain screwing things up more - the only diff between the two is that Maverick has an itchy trigger finger. Where I come from, one tosser after another will promise 'change' and do the same exact thing. This was before 'majority rule' and after, both b/x the new guys are just as full of crap. One of our presidents, Botha, a major prick, did say one thing that was cynical but extremely astute: "Adapt or die". He was speaking about a certain racial group but I believe he voiced the sentiment of 99.9% of all politicians. That's what they do to survive. I'll vote for Barack but I only like him 1% better than Maverick, and I loathe the latter.
However back to pron, I have to attribute this drastic drop in sales to nothing else but folks bugging out. But yes, it's a one party system; that's why I like Ron Paul. What about a multi-party system? Dr. Paul said the same thing you did - don't vote for either one of those wankers. |

First for the porn sales. Mine were awful just before the "official crises" and then after the announcement they picked up again. Now they seem to be starting down but I can't be sure.
I tally up totals on excel and try to compare them to nifty stats at the end of each month and despite my daily ulcers, I've only had two really shitty months this year and overall kicked the shit out of last years stats. As far things picking up. I sure hope they don't pick up too quick, cause I still have my eye on buying a few of those million dollar homes at under one hundred grand and some of that fortune five hundred stock at a nickel a share Like I said before, there are advantages to being at the bottom of the food chain.of course, things will pick up. They will either pick up after everything hits bottom so hard there isn't any further down you can go, or just because of nothing more than the false belief that this new guy will change things. There could be a small psychological effect to that alone and he'll probably get more credit than he deserves just out of timing.

My porn stuff has been fairly stable throughout all this. I only see the election having a real significant effect on certain things (like the stock market) for a short period immediately following. Couple that event with a bunch of companies posting Q3 results, and there may be some big movement one way or the other, then it will settle back to the doldrums again because the mess is too big to be solved by human emotion alone. Just my opinion... |

Good points, but here in LA (and NYC where I was last week), those million dollar houses and flats are depreciating verrry slowly. $40K off the ticker price won't make me break out the checkbook just yet - mostly b/c there's nothing in it, but the shot in the arm to keep this disaster at bay seems to only uphold that those houses were/are overpriced and will continue to be overpriced for now.
Christ on a crutch, these days you're still paying half a million for a dump in the deepest darkest recesses of the Valley, or worse! |
