Multiple Domains/Blogs
Ok, so say I was starting a blog on the topic of Ass... yes, i know it's been done. Bear with me for the sake of hypothetical talk.
Now, I have registered BottomBabes.com (not really - it's available) and I could also get AssBabes.com (this isn't). A few questions: Should I? If I do, should they be the same blog with both domains pointing to it... OR Different blogs with the same content posted on each? Or is there another option that I am not considering? Thank you!

One thing you could do is build them up simultaneously with the same layout and try to get the same traffic sources to each. Then as you get an idea for changing layout or something else to see how it affects sales, you can do a comparison of how each performs. That way you can consistently move towards the best sponsors / layouts / ad placement / tone of copywriting / etc...
So, two different blogs is my vote. |

Odysseus, VERY good point. I like that thought.
Sort of an A/B split. Basing percentages of response on the traffic each gets. Is there ever a time when something like this would NOT make sense? -- OR... Here is a good one... Is there a way to have two WP blogs share the same content/database? It seems to me that it would be relatively easy, and then to change the widget codes so that A might have 1-5 widget areas, and B has 6-10...? They could even have different templates if the themes folder had a theme named "main" in each one... and the files were simply different. Thoughts? I think that's a nifty concept.

you can register 100 domains and redirect to your site but you're not really gaining anything.

I have 6 wp installs sharing the same database, easy to do. Every one, even the ones on their own domain, have the same theme so they all look like one big site. Click on my site in my sig, then click on the sections in the left menu. Looking at the url you will see some are sub-folders, while others are totally different domains. Yet it all looks seamlessly as one big site.

Balls, what is your thought on what Odysseus said? I think it is definitely a valid point.
Bill, I'll take a look. Do you use the same database for many of them? I have been toying with the idea, for the A/B split concept, and I like what I have been thinking.

If they are on different domains I use only one. I just use a 1,2,3,4 number after the wp part of the database name.

Hmmm. Interesting. I have some thinking to do.
Good thing this is just in the early development stages... I have a lot to accomplish with my other two right now. Thank you. I'll probably be hitting you up for more info... and I am glad to trade services, if you need it.
