Traffic up and Down
Odd... Some of my best performing blogs lost 1500 to 2000 uniques over the past 3 days. Is this just a normal "update" thing or what?
I'm not pulling my hair out b/c I've made it a mission to cover my arse when these things do occur and am building more sites. Sales are down as well from the ones holding stedy, could be 'the economy, stupid' but who knows. Anyone just got walloped like I did? |

Google has updated PR yesterday - noticed changes in a couple of sites could explain it.

Well, gawd damn!
Couple of my sites got really clobbered this time around. And then others with same exact amt of traffic previously, same PR and same frequency of updates stayed the same. How to prevent getting clobbered again? I know, I know, 'don't second guess google' and 'don't rely on google traffic' but I am annoyed!

after a PR update traffic is often going "Up & down". Usually it becomes stable in a week or so. No worries.

Isn't traffic always up and down? If it's not isn't that a sign you're not doing any work and expecting "keyturn shit" to work?

I can see why you're saying that but I have sites that have constant steady traffic; I'm just wondering if and how I will need to resuscitate the ones that just got hit bad.

Actually you're doing awesome and should let internet nature take it's course (as far as blogging is concerned), unless you're personally inclined towards one.
Lots of assholes will tell you all types of things you should do but let them show you data (not cut and paste bullshit - proof) that they are doing better than you. Then you can pay them for links and info and keep the payments low to start and timely

I actually fully can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not or if you're drinking. We went on the wagon for about 10 days, and while I didn't think much of it, I also didn't feel that great either, so I'm guzzling some nice white bordeaux right now.
I can't say that I'm doing awesome but I'm getting closer to my goal of a living wage, but of course, what I was saying is that part of the appeal for me is to be able to not work on the sites for several days at a time and still get paid, and of course not to mention not having to go to the oficina. Thing about internet nature in re to blogs, is that I'm finding it's a big hit and miss a lot and you can and will get burnt, so I am trying to expand the network of sites and build more more more... Not sure if it's a good strategy but my best blog that I was so proud of which was doing 5-6K uniques a day is still in the gutter after the last episode of the google scythe, and that was in February, and that site still only gets 250 hits a day - BRUTAL! So I've given up on that site completely. And I believe volume does pay off now. I can't suffer hits like this anymore. Time for a refill. |

Very true but let's do the math, BD. That one wallop that I spoke of - I used to get 5-6K in uniques just from google traffic and it's down to 200 now. Anyway, I gave up on that site but what Im sayinfg is not only does that suck yarbles, but isn't the point of blogging is to get SE traffic, otherwise, why not build TGPS and what not?

Blogging is definitely more about search engine traffic. However, you still don't want to rely on just one traffic source.
It is pretty awful to lose thousands of uniques per day suddenly, but I think if you just keep your head down and keep working, you'll find that it is still okay. I've had it happen with sites of mine, and I would just get out there and work harder. I'd look for new link trades, try to find links on my site that were no longer sending traffic, kill any dead links, freshen things up a little in the side bars, and do some more SEO. What matters more than the traffic is if it's affecting your income at all. |

Blogs that change large portions on the most important pages ( like the frontpage ) have a large flux then more rigid ones. my 2cts |
