I just got the newest FF update

I guess I have my settings to auto update whenever the newest version of FF comes out, as I just got the new one installed.

Looks like 3.0.3 or something? So far so good, I notice my google spell check is working again, it was not up to now.

Will let you know of any problems.

Hey there Jim. Yup, it was like you could not turn it off after you checked it, the damn words stayed bold and colored. Seems to be fine on this version,,,, so far.

Well, I'm running version 3.02 and haven't been notified of an update and the version on the Mozilla website is still at 3.02 so I guess you're special. But I've never had a spell check problem in any of the versions, including this one.

What, you did not know that until now!

Actually it may very well be 3.0.2, I did not check. I just know that today it automatically updated me to the newest version.

About 2 versions ago the google spell check stopped working, even though I updated the google toolbar. I also had that flickering that some have said they have.

But this one seems to be working very well. I just wish I knew how to turn off the auto update. I like to make up my own mind about upgrades.

My browser keeps trying to get me to update, but I keep saying no. I know that eventually it will probably just force the update... we'll see. However, it sounds like you guys are doing well with your updates lately.

Well, I'm happy to report, albeit with my fingers crossed, that since my up to 3.02 I've yet to crash. I had posted a thread a while back called 'Constant Crashing' and was never able to correct the problem. From my report at Secunia I found this in the list of vulnerabilities in the old version:

"4) Multiple errors in the layout and JavaScript engines can be exploited to corrupt memory.

5) Two errors in the image rendering implementation can be exploited to cause a crash.

6) An error in the graphics rendering engine can be exploited to cause a crash."

Could have been my prob and again, I've got my fingers crossed, so far so good....

Monica, I am with you, mine keeps mentioning offhandedly that is has a gift for me, usually when I start up. I ignore it, the way you have.

After all, when I am starting Firefox, I want to actually use it... Silly me!

I'll update one of these days, but I have to say that using FF on a Mac, I have very few instability issues.

God damn, I just got a notice that the next time I start up FF 3.0.3 will be added! WTF, I like this one, I hope the 3.0.3 will be stable.

I've got to go into my options and find out how I can turn auto updates off!

If you don't want to be notified of updates at all, tools/options/advanced then uncheck Firefox where it says "notify me of updates.

If you want to be notified but have the option of deciding whether to update or not instead of having it auto update then on that same screen select "ask me what I want to do".

I had some bumps with FF3 on the other computer but all is well now. This one is still FF2 and I am sure it's slightly quicker???

Anyone considered going over to Chrome full-time? No-one is talking about Chrome anymore, is it that bad?

Re: Chrome...

I have not yet adopted it. Firfox has what i need, and I am rarely bleeding edge. I have it on my comps for testing purposes, and I am interested to see where it might end up going.

Until it goes somewhere, though, I like what I have.

Firefox is just too damn useful with all of the web developer tools and Firebug.

I should have left well enough alone, after updating to 3.02 everything seemed right with the world, including stability and a slight increase in speed. So the following day I get the notice that 3.03 is available and I'm thinkning, let's go for it. Now I'm back to the same persistent crashing and fall outs, UUUGGHH!!

So far I'm liking it too, haven't had it long but it does work even better than the old firefox. You can't really mess up with firefox it seems like.

HAHA oh man, the other day I was a little ticked off because I was typing a message and a window popped up to ask if I wanted to update.

However, I type so fast, that I was still typing when it popped up and something I pressed made it take my answer as YES PLEASE update me NOW!

Luckily I wasn't doing anything super important and it loaded the updates and would install them on the next start up, so I didn't lose anything.

And, now that I've been using it for a few days, I haven't noticed a single difference.

However, I don't think it updated me to the latest version... I'm not sure why that is. I'm still on 2.something

Thought I'd resurrect this thread with the new info I've just received, even though I'm so far the only one experiencing crashes, figured this should be at least duly noted. Looks like the fix will be in version 3.04

"a weakness in Mozilla Firefox, which can be exploited by malicious people to cause a DoS (Denial of Service).

The weakness is caused due to an error when dispatching "keypress" user interface events with e.g. the HTML root element as target. This may potentially result in use of invalid memory or memory corruption via a specially crafted web page.

Successful exploitation crashes the browser. However, even though code execution has not been proven, it can't be completely ruled out.

The weakness is confirmed in version 3.0.3 for Windows. Version 2.x is not affected.

NOTE: Secunia normally does not classify a browser crash as a vulnerability nor issue an advisory about it. However, the potential impact of this issue may be more severe than currently believed.

Solution:
The weakness is fixed in the pre-release nightly builds of 3.1 and will be fixed in the upcoming version 3.0.4."

This wasn't considered critical

Weird. I just got a laptop so I'm on the newest versions of everything now, and so far so good. I haven't had any issues with the new Firefox yet, and so far I haven't had any issues with the interface etc.
