Does anybody still use AVS (or what ever they are now called)?

Most are called AEN's and I do very well with one personally.

How much of the profits are from selling passes? Or is it the upsells that make the money?

Most of it comes from the signups and not upsells and yes to your second question. The secret to good conversions with an AEN is first of all, a good one that provides good content and second the ability to design a tour that will convert well. Rebills are usually excellent if the content is good and you keep the members area updated but the fact that your member will have access to hundreds or even thousands of other sites means they won't run out of content or niches to keep them happy.

BTW, you question about upsells make me think you're thinking of the old style AVS sites that had a few pictures and relied on upsells to make money. Those sites are no longer viable and you'll need to plan on building full sites that look and act just like a real pay site.

I think it's pretty cool that AEN's are still out there, and you hear almost NOTHING about it on the boards. In fact, most other webmasters would insist that the whole scene is dead.

I'm excited to hear that you can still work at it and be successful, albeit in a slightly different style than before (ie: actual work)
