hotlinked or not
How do I know if a banner/ad is 'hotlinked' or not. VERY new to this and I think I have discovered why some banners do not display for me. Are there affiliate programs that offer nothing but hotlinked banners? Thank you for your help.

Hi there, welcome to the board! I'm not sure what your trying to do, as you say some banners don't display and you want to know of sponsors that offer "hotlinked" banners.
You mean sponsors that offer banners served from their own host? Some do, some don't. Most of the time I prefer to download the image and serve it from my own host. You don't have to let them serve it. As for how do you know, look at the img url when you right click on it. Any reason why you don't want to serve a banner on your own host??

If an image file (jpg or gif) that you're linking to is at another website then you are hotlinking. If it is at your own web site then that is not.
For example; <a href="http://www.some-body-elses-web-site.com/index.html"><img src="http://www.some-body-elses-web-site.com/beachbunny.jpg"></a> Here the image beachbunny.jpg is being hot linked from some-body-elses-web-site.com <a href="http://www.some-body-elses-web-site.com/index.html"><img src="http://www.your-web-site.com/beachbunny.jpg"></a> And here it is linked from your website. Hope this helps. |

When it comes to your own site, you should allso set up hotlinking protection, especially if you have some pics/galleries/freesites laying floating around. Search google "hotlink protection+htaccess"..it's different ways to do it, all based on your preferences.
