I've been learning more and more about blogging over the past 10 months. It's really turning into a money maker on two fronts for me. At first I thought it was all bs and hype but I shut up, built some blogs both mainstream and porn and things have been going upward.

The mainstream blogs sometimes get outstanding traffic and attention ( science, news, law, comic books related ) but the porn blogs take care of themselves. Just update now and then and they do just fine. Looks like blogging is a smart addition to one's sales. Some of my traditional sales sources dropped but others picked up fast to take their place. Looks like some products do better by blog than others. Very interesting observation indeed. I've always had success with adding toons to blogs and did some editorial toons to ad to my news blogs and got picked up by dozens of newspapers. My old pals in the news business emailed me to say they were happy to see me back in the biz but I told em' it was an experiment.

Some webmasters blog like there's no tomorrow and I can see why now. Done right they can be quite the sales and promotional venue. ( I can't believe I've had time to post something on the board of length in the past two busy weeks. )

Yup, blogging is all I do. Somehow it seems like no matter what you do with WP, it ranks you up there fast. So I try to make everything with it. Some say that's overkill, but if it works then why the hell not use it??

I have to say though my mainstream stuff seems to take a long time to take off. I need to link more I'm sure.

Just the opposite with me. My mainstream stuff shoots up to PR 4 and higher fast. Porn stuff longer but gets there.

I really need to do more work though just to meet the demand of the surfers. I'm swamped as it is. I started writing blog posts for other webmasters and this month has just been the busiest ever.

Adding toons to the blog posts is what's zooming things up for me too. I just have to do more work. I'm literally moving on 18 hour days.

I would like my main index page to be the WP blog page. Any success with that Bill?

I'm not sure what you mean. I always have my blog in the root, which means the front blog page is the index page. Just install your blog in the root folder and your blog will be the index page.

Unless I'm not following you??

Well A-duh on me Bill!

Yes, that's what I was looking for. To have my main blog page appear where normally my index page would be. I tried it last year but didn't know enough about WP at the time.

So I kill my regular index.html and put my blog index.html in the root? Sounds easy.....

Wait a minute! That's not what I said. I upload the whole WP install in the root, not just the index. In other words, when I do a fresh domain, there is nothing at all in there. I then upload the whole WP install in the root, and the index automatically becomes the domain index page.

Now, different host may be different, I have ATCI. I think if you don't have your whole blog in the root, just switching the blog index to the other one will not work.

The easiest way to do your own themes is find a simple theme to start with that is similar to the layout you want, and similar in the colors you want.

Then, it's easy to alter the header and some design elements and voila, a custom theme.

That's how I "learned" some css and html. By taking a theme I liked and tweeking it to be more for me.

This week I've learned some new tips on blogging that just amazed me! That's why I chose to do some freelance writing for other people's blogs. I'm seeing how pros do it for SEO and see the results!

I'm officially the worst blogger in porn, my sole lackluster blog doesn't do anything. Of course if I updated more than once a month and knew how to work WP I may have a better chance, otherwise it's practically worthless. It's lonely here at the bottom too....

Question, are the successful bloggers reading and visiting other blogs, are you blog enthusiasts or is it simply a matter of constantly updating and being blog fanatical just for the sake of the almighty dolla? I'm definitely missing the boat.....

Houskeeper, I'm no genius at this either but I'm learning fast. There are three things that have been leading to me being a better blogger and 1. I study the experts 2. I'm a professional writer and the SE's just gavitate towards me because other news sites and media sites link to my posts 3. I do freelance blog writing for other webmasters which really has boosted not only my income but my knowledge of what type of blog writing leads to better SEO results.

I gotta say, I started my blog back in December, and its already grown faster in a shorter amount of time then any of my other sites. And the number of minutes people are spending and the number of return visitors coming back blows away my other sites. It just goes to show that a few carefully written words and a little humor can go along way when trying to achieve that "sticky" factor that everyone so desperately craves.

The majority of my blogs are non porn and they get fantastic exposure! I don't post about it on the adult boards because there are so many haters out here in the adult business you don't even want the attention.

Bottom line is if you have a blog and write well about things of interest and study the basics of blogging you'll be a-okay.

I think what he is asking is just how do you make money with a mainstream blog. I have several, and you make the money using google adsense and other affiliate programs like CJ junction.
