Video Conversion Issues
Ok, I'm still very new to video, so naturally I'm making a few mistakes along the way.
I took some video that was provided in MPG format, and converted it to WMV and also to Flash. Both the WMV and Flash files do not play quite right. They have little blips in them.... For example, it looks like it's missing every tenth frame or something along those lines... because every so many seconds the frame will kind of freeze for a second and then continue on. It's as if the video has the hiccups. What was I doing wrong? I used programs that are intended to convert these file formats to other file formats. I didn't change the Kbps or file size. |

If working on a PC, it might be best to store your raw footage as DV-AVI files and then convert each of your finals from that source. Anytime you use any sort of compression on the file (MPG, WMV, etc) it is "lossy". It dumps frames, encodes weirdly and such for each type of file. Trying to then recompress it with another technology often results in avoidable garbage.
Always starting fresh with raw DV-AVI (big bloated files) will avoid much of the compression artifacts. Then use your final edit of that DV-AVI source to spool off any publishing formats you need... But they can be startling in size, and real resource hogs. The source files I mess with seem to average 5-8 gigs in native DV-AVI and only a matter of megs once compressed. Just an opinion... |

If you don't have the source files....
I am not an expert either but have succesfully exported vids in the past. What settings are you using? Maybe you need to increase your kbps? |

Monica, If you give me a link to a video file you are having a problem with, I'll convert it and see if i get the same issues.
It could be a software problem.
