"Blanket" model release?
In the world of content production is it common or OK to use blanket model releases which cover all content a model does for you? Or does an individual release have to be executed for each and every shoot?
Thanks for any advice or samples anyone might be able to lend. |

I am not sure whether it would be alright for you to do a blanket release or not. To me, it sounds like you would be best to always get a new release, for every photo shoot you do, because that way, you are covered should the model ever try to say she didn't agree to the terms.
I think consulting a lawyer in this instance is a good idea. |

I understand completely, and am not seeking 'real' legal advice...
The situation is that we have a small gaggle of preliminary camera and sound tests with models who are active with us. They are happy to sign-off in any fashion, just hoped to hear there was a 'standardized contract' for studio models. That might indicate there is a better long-term solution for us somehow, covering the release retroactively to a stated period. Thanks anyway! |

Each shoot should have it's own model release form signed the same day of the shoot, regardless if they have signed one previously at another shoot.
If you have the photo ID and other 2257 Details, then you don't need to get those twice, they'll already be in your records (just confirm they're still at the same address). |

Thanks for the advice and the link. We will execute retro-active releases for each of the sessions to CYA everyone.
On the link, although that's a great reference point and offers great info, some of the contracts... well... seem rather haphazard. Take the 'Model Release Adult' and its 'Terms and Conditions' section. The text shifts from first to third person and back again, and also is specifically written for a female in some places - a male/female in others. Seems kind of poor attention to detail in such an important document but maybe a good boilerplate resource. The contracts kinda match the attention to detail in the site layout in a way I guess. And more proof I guess that when you obtain free legal advice, you get what you pay for (smile). |
