Trouble with images in blog post

I'm using wp 2.5.1, and am trying to figure out how to insert images in my posts. When I insert them, I get a box the correct size for the pic, and in the correct space, but there is no picture there. I am assuming that I'm either uploading them to the wrong folder, or putting in the wrong url. So the questions are:

1-What folder should I upload my pictures to, and where should that folder be, specifically?

2-When prompted for picture url, what should I enter, in relation to question 1?

Hi there. Well, first how are you trying to put the image in the post? I mean, you can just typethe url in, or on your editor you press that tree picture that signifies a image and type in the url, or you use that image uploader that says media.

So, which way are you trying to put the image in? Also, how are you uploading the images, using the media uploader or by ftp?

I'm using the tree picture, then entering everything into the box that comes up. I'm using WS_FTP Home edition to upload. To try it the first time I made a folder named "images" and stuck it in the htdocs folder. The second time I stuck the pictures in the wp-admin/images folder. I keep getting the empty image box with that little icon you get when your images don't work, when I look at my post.

Yes, I know, it can be frustrating. It wasn't easy for me to get started either, but I have a hosting company with great support, and I have Cozy!

I spent an hour or so cursing at it, and then left it alone and went back to posting manually. All good until now... the amount of entries are getting too much for one page and it's going to get to be a pain in the ass to post if I have to move entries from pages to pages.

Suppose I should get back on that. But I'm hijacking your thread, I'll make my own later :P

Unless I'm using a special plug in I'm not aware of...

In the light light light light blue bar (same as the one that says POST in bold) above the slightly darker one where the tree is you'll see a small section with light grey tool logos (add image, add video, add audio, add media). Click that it will open an overlay window where you can upload and label and format your images (except editing your thumb properly so you'll have to actually upload two if you're using pics longer in height because it will center the smaller thumb)

To find urls you want to go way up to where you see MANAGE, click that and it will bring you to the MEDIA LIBRARY where you can click your url.

Or do what Bill said if you don't want to use the CMS of wp and just want to do things manually (which might be easier but could end up screwing you when and if you move the site)

Hey there ikabodsbadgirl, I just got up. Well, it looks like the url is not right, as you suspect. Now, did you know that when you type in your url you do not use htdocs folder? Here's what I mean, say your using the images folder you put in htdocs, which is what I do and advise you to do. The url will be:

http://mysite.com/images/picture1.jpg

Notice you have to use the http:// thing. Also it's NOT:

http://mysite.com/htdocs/images/picture1.jpg

Make sure your pictures are there. Also do you know the format, that is that the picture is jpg and not maybe gif? Finally sometimes you can have pictures that have the format in capitals, like JPG instead of jpg. I have that problem sometimes.

Try all that ans see if it works now.

I made the images folder in the htdocs, but left the htdocs out of the url, and MAGIC, my picture appeared in my post! You have made me a happy woman tonight!
