Image Slicer
Can anyone recommend a good image slicer?
I want one that I can open up a large image in, set out the lines I want it sliced on, and BING, it will slice it up into images for me. |

Photoshop will do that.

Does Photoshop still do that in CS3, Jim? I'm still using Imageready for most of my web optimization even though I now have CS3 and Imageready is no longer part of the package. Although the new Premiere is awesome in that package

I still use CS2 so I'm not sure if CS3 has lost that function or not. I can't imagine they would take that out though.

I'm using an older version of PS. I hadn't realized it would do that.
Where should I be looking for this feature, under which menu? |

I don't think the old ones do it. I have PS and it's not an option on mine.

Nah, even old ones will do it. I have a copy of 6 and it does it.
With the image open, use the slice tool from the menu to draw slices. It looks like an X-acto knife. There are options but you can just drag them by hand. You can right click on them to add URLs, alt tags, and file names. Then choose save for web and you can save individual slices, different formats for each slice as well as the html if you want. |

Okay, I guess the slice tool is in photoshop and imageready. Never noticed it in photoshop because like I said I always used imageready for web prep, but now that I looked I see it in both versions or photoshop CS2 and CS3. It's the slice tool that looks like a knife unless I'm misunderstanding something. I don't know how far back in versions of photoshop it started, but I would imagine at least when they started to add imageready to it.

Oh I see, it's the one that says pen mode, looks like a felt pen. When you select it you can change it to cut mode at the top.
But I can't figure out how to use it like that. Guess you need to go into the manual.

PP, I'm not sure when they combined it, 6 is as far back as I remember. I used image ready back then until it stopped loading for some reason, that's how I found out it was in PS as well..lol.
Bill, the pen tool and the slice tool are different. tool Once you select it, just drag over your image to start creating slices. |

The cool part of using PS, is it also compresses and optimises the images! Plus it creates your tables! |

If you are using Photoshop CS3 there is a little button along the top that will create slices from guides. Just drag guides to where you want the slices click the button and save for web; slices and html. Can be done in a heartbeat
