My newest site hits a PR6
One of my blogs dropped from a PR4 to a PR2 during Google's last shakeup but Ventibate went from a PR3 to a PR6. And my Quick Vents page went from a PR1 to a PR5.
FYI, my traffic did not drop on the blog that dropped PR and the traffic did not mysteriously jump on Ventibate when it doubled it's PR. Just thought I'd mention that for those of you that think PR is going to make a big difference in your Google traffic. I'm especially amazed when I see people paying for links on high PR sites. However, if anyone wants to pay me for a link on a PR6 site, I'm not going to splain it to them.

Well good for you Hammer. I see my Bilinda blog FINALLY has a rank,,, a 2. It took 6 months before getting a page rank. I need to get more links to it.

WAY to go!
I went and checked my sites and I finally have some PR on most of my newer sites. I'm glad, as it is pretty hard to find link trades when you only have PR0. |

I just did a check and somehow my blog dropped from a PR2 to a PR0, but my linklist is rocking a PR3 for its first ranking.

Good job on the PR.
But I have to disagree, PR still does matter. Toolbar PR lags behind what Google actually uses, that's why nobody sees a big change when the toolbar PR updates, because the change already happened several months ago. But it does make a difference when buying links. It's just a way to judge what you are getting. There are very few PR6 sites that are in poor standing with google. It's not perfect, but it's all you have to go on sometimes. It's also very similar to Alexa. With Alexa, the closer you get to 1, the more accurate it is. With PR, 1, 2, 3 really doesn't matter. But once you get above 5 you are dealing with decent sites with good backlink structure and an authority standing with Google. |

Well Jim, I guess we're just going to have to disagree because I've never noticed any appreciable difference in the SE traffic my blogs get when they have a high PR compared to when they had a low one.
Ventibate started getting lots of Google traffic within a few days of launch and at that time it was in the sandbox with no PR at all. Over time the PR has increased along with the Google traffic but the only thing I can attribute the Google traffic increase to logically is the increase in pages that are generating that traffic. BTW, I have not gone out of my way to trade traffic with anyone from Ventibate other than a few friends. I did not buy any links, request any links on high PR sites or reject anyone that asked for a link solely on the basis that their site might have had a low PR.

PR and traffic are not directly proportional, but I think that's what people assume. That PR is a magic key that google gives your site so it can start ranking well.
PR is just an overall snapshot of how google views your site. It's delayed and it's not perfect but taken into account with other factors it gives you a pretty good idea of a site's standing in the eyes of Google. But it doesn't give you sudden traffic. Just like if you went to the doctor for a checkup and had high blood pressure. It's not the high blood pressure that's making you unhealthy. It's probably your poor diet, lack of exercise, and genetic make up that caused your poor health, the high blood pressure is just a manifestation of those things. That's what PR is, it's a manifestation of many factors involving your site's health. But like I said, any PR under 4 is pretty much the same. |

I would have to agree that PR doesn't matter much.
Strangely one of my new sites release in December 2006 hit the ground running with a PR4, I don't know how it happened but it did. Anyway the traffic increased but the PR went down. From a 4 to a 3 to a 2 before finally settling on PR0. I still get the same amount of traffic and 99% of it comes from Google. BTW, I have never exchanged link or bought links of any kind. It's all organic SE traffic. |

Sharkface, I've had a few sites go down in PR and increase in traffic as well. But having one or two sites do strange things doesn't make for a pattern.
If you take 100 PR6 sites and 100 PR 1 sites. On average the PR6 sites will be doing much better than the PR1 sites. It's obviously not a perfect indicator, Google would never give you that. Like I said, I use PR in ADDITION to other tests to judge a site before I trade or buy links. Anyway, good discussion. |

Why is it that adult site almost never have a PR greater than 5? Is it because of the unnatural linking patterns that end up limiting them?
