WP admin 404 error
I tested the link from my index page to my blog, and it took me to my blog like it's supposed to. Now I'm trying to log in to the admin to tweak and post and I'm getting a 404 error on everything I've tried. I'm doing it this way:
http://www.myurl.com///wp-admin/ and http://www.myurl.com/blog///wp-admin/ when I hit enter it's changing "blog" to "htdocs" which happens to be what I accidently named it before I renamed that folder "blog". Any suggestions? p.s. I went to the site and checked the blog link and it is working also

sounds like you may need to reinstall wordpress giving the correct directory name upon install.
Its hard to tell what you need to know from your post.

Sorry if I'm not being clear. I think renaming the folder may have not been helpful. I'm going to give it a rest for tonight.
Thanks for trying to help!

Um, is that the exact syntax of the URL you are trying to reach? Having all those slashes will cause a 404. You only need one.

mynameisjim-
Well for cryin' out loud. That is how I've been doing it. Someone showed me how to do it like that. No wonder I have so much trouble trying to access my blogs. Thank you, I'll take out the multiple forward slashes.

Crud-
I tried it and this is what I get in the address bar: http://bbwnastycams.com/htdocs/wp-lo...%2Fwp-admin%2F Do you think I should throw in the towel and ask my host for help?

Yes, I think you should ask your host to install the latest version for you. The newest, 2.5, is different than the older ones and so far seems better.
So tell them to delete the old one, and install the 2.5 newest version. Oh BTW, thanks for posting on my board!!

Am I still waking up or did I read in one of your posts that you renamed the folder? Was this after install?
Installing wordpress should be this simple http://codex.wordpress.org/Installing_WordPress Depending on your host. (There's a five minute install on this page) Also depending on your host you can use this plug in to upgrade wp itself and plugs (this is a new page I'm just now rereading so do the same before using it. Just discovered the bugs myself) http://techie-buzz.com/wordpress-plu...in-update.html Your url should read like this if you installed in your main domain http://www.DOMAINNAME.COM/wp-admin/index.php if you install in a folder it should read like this http://www.DOMAINNAME.COM/FOLDERNAME/wp-admin/index.php

What probably happened is you renamed the folder that the wordpress installation is in, and now you can't get into the admin area because you didn't change the URL to your blog inside the admin area.
I suggest changing the name of the folder back and see if that works. If it does... go into the admin, go to options, and find the spot where you set the URL and paths to your wordpress installation. Change those to the url with the new directory name you want, THEN change the name of the directory. |

Thanks for the help. I did rename the folder after I installed it. I will try your suggestions, and see what I can figure out.
Thank you!

In case anyone else finds this thread useful, I thought I'd wrap it up. I ended up uninstalling wp and reinstalling it in the "blog" folder, where I wanted it originally. It worked out fine and I started posting right away.
