WordPress Comments
How do the comments on the wordpress blog work. I mean how does allowing people to post comments help my site. the people who post comments on my site get to put links on my page back to their blog. what am i getting out of it. I must be missing something. can someone explain how that works?

The comments can add relatated content to your page without you doing anything.
If it's just a porn splog, then turn the comments off. But if it's a real blog, by all means they help. Plus, if someone leaves a comment they will usually come back to see if there are any replies which mean they could become a regular reader. As for the links, by default all comment links are no follow. You should also run a spam plugin or at least make all comments with a URL to go into moderation. |

that was fast
thanks for the information.
What do you mean by no follow. When i click on the persons name its a link off my site. should i edit the url out in the moderation section. or do you mean the links are no follow to the seo bots? It's a blog thats about porn. not a splog. |

It's no follow meaning the SEs don't pass PR with the link, so it's not hurting you or helping them as far as the SEs are concerned.
If it's a real blog with articles, leave the comments on for sure. Make sure to reply to the comments as well to get the ball rolling. Don't just say "thanks for the comment" but instead try to get something going. |

You absolutely MUST have a plugin that will manage comment spam for you though, or you will soon get flooded with spam comments. I use Akismet and it works well.
