Five thousands visitors daily, no sales
I am still quite new at this but I have improved my blog a lot and from the initial 150 daily visitors, now I am getting five thousand unique visitors daily, this has only been this way for the last two weeks, as the site has been slashdotted.
I thought this to be a reasonable number, not enough to make a living, but enough to make one sale a month. Maybe I am too impatient or I expected too much as I had already done some sale with 150 visitors. Is this normal? What are the realistic number of daily visitors a blog should get to make ONE sale a month? I know this is not perfect science, but roughly. |

It may just be that your traffic sucks. If it's comming from social bookmarking sites it's not going to convert well.
Your sale at 150 visitors/day was likely more targeted traffic. are you sending clicks to the sponsor and they just dont convert or are your surfers not clicking through your ads?

Damn, if the traffic was any good you should be making a couple sales a DAY. Without knowing what your blog is about, how it looks or anything there is no way anyone can tell you what the problem is.
Try posting your blog and see what people say about it.

Like Balls said, social bookmark traffic sucks and if the post the traffic is coming to doesn't have an obvious link to something they can join, don't rely on sidebar ads to lure them in, most of them won't even bookmark your blog. The best thing you can do with social bookmark traffic is hope your blog is really enticing so they do bookmark it and come back.

You asked what the daily number of visitors it takes to make one sale a month.
I would say if you get 50 visitors a day you should be able to get one sale a month. Probably more. You should really set your goals a bit higher though. |

AMOUNT of traffic has absolutely nothing to do with anything. And as I've said before, NEITHER DOES RATIO. The bottom line is THE BOTTOM LINE (sign ups).
I've been pretty much doing mainly this for income since 2004 (roughly, i think). I don't work a full time or part time job (though I do collect residual checks for writing from time to time that I don't depend on). I don't concern myself with ratios or traffic numbers (although you should always aim for the GREATEST amount of FREE TRAFFIC you can get ALWAYS and let the other stuff become incidental). I don't believe my ratios have ever been better than 1:500 and that's after click through to sponsors and that's using all types of traffic (i.e. galleries, free sites, blogs (splogs if you want to be picky). Sometimes my traffic is high with few sign ups; sometimes my traffic is low with a decent amount of sign ups. Believe it or not there is a skill to this and a lot of it has to do with having an eye for content and a way with dirty enticing words plus hard work. It's not all magic tricks and seo guru stuff.

Oh, I almost forgot - Having a sponsor with some decent affiliate content and/or will give you memberships inside their sites along with some decent sites that convert is a HUGE PLUS also.
