Blog Challenged
Forgive me for such generic questions and I realize given that each blog is perhaps different, but I'm finding a couple of aspects of my blog a little confusing. More specifically with regard to my 'Archives', 'Categories' sections. If you take a look transexual glamour you'll notice I only have archives for Oct. and though I've tried to set up categories for my other pages, only my home/introdcution page is represented.
Also, on my other pages my 'more tag' doesn't seem to work and perhaps this is inter-related. I haven't been able to fully embrace the actual wordpress help sections so much, so any insight would be helpful to me. I appreciate your time if you're able to give some hints, thanks.

hey housekeeper, I recognize your avatar from TM.
I'd say if you're not removing the archives on purpose, it may be your theme has a bit of bad code in some way. Try switching to the default theme then visit your site to see if the problems go away. If so, you may need to dig into your theme to find the problem. I'm only seeing one post though so I'm not sure how you have set things up. |

Let us know what happens when you try the default settings. If things still aren't working, tell us which version of wordpress you're using and we'll go from there!

Try loading a default template, or download the default template and load it up. If that corrects the problem the code in the theme itself is wrong. If it doesn't, the code of blog itself is messed up. If the theme is messed up, either hunt for the archive arguments, or undo any mods you have done for archives.
In the case that its the blog itself, either save the template and the database, and reinstall then restore everything. Or replace the files one at a time, but DO NOT replace the cfg files. Or go hunting and pecking at the code. Usually i would just do a backup and restore. It's a perfect time to do an update anyways. In my expierence 9/10 times it's a bad mod that you tried to install. Usually with a line out of place or writen incorrectly. If its not that my bet is on the template.

The original WordPress theme that graced versions 1.2.x and prior. Wordpress classic is 1.5 and wordpress default i 1.6 I switched to the default theme as well as the original and there was no change regarding my problems. I've done little in the way of changing things or modifying, except to add content and a few scripts. I did check it on my admin panel, but everything checked okay. I've done little in the way of poking around, etc. Thanks again for your input, I'd hate to have to start from scratch, but certainly the archives, categories, and more tags are obviously important. And as my title suggests, I'm certainly challenged in my knowledge of this program, but I wouldn't be afraid of going in and mending it myself if I knew which direction to head...

it is a permalink issue.
make sure you have a file called ".htaccess" and make it writable in the installation directory. then goto the wp control pannel and re-set your permalinks (under options)

my host has the same issue with wordpress, it doesn't create the .htaccess file.
here's an easy work around. 1. create a blank text document named "x.htaccess" 2. upload that file to your main wp directory 3. with an ftp client change the name to ".htaccess" change the properties to "777" (make the file writable). 4. After all that go into wordpress and reset your permalinks. All should be good.

I created a new .htaccess file and transferred with ftp, not certain about the installation directory to put it in. I'm being told to update my .htacces file, but not real clear on how to do that..

I've made it writable and changed the permissions, wp tells me permalink structure updated, should it be in my main directory or my themes directory?

I'll keep working on it, I sure do appreciate your help and you've pointed me in the right direction. I'm also using the wordpress help section, so hopefully I'll mend it shortly...
