Vegas with HV20 - Uploading
I just bought my HV20 today. I tried to import some sample video in order to test it out. I currently use Vegas 8.0a. When I attempt to import the video as I always do, Vegas tells me that "The Device - HV20 - Cannot be opened. Please make sure that it is turned on and is not being used by another application or user."
I assure you it's on. And it's not being used by any other users. Vegas at least recognizes that it is an HV20. I'm not doing anything different than when I would upload my tape from my 7 year old Sony minicam. Is it simply my version of Vegas not being able to upload HDV video? Seems it would give me a better error message if that were the case. Computer: Dell Insprion Laptop, 32 bit os, 2 GB ram, Dual 2Gb processors. Vista Any thoughts?

I figured it out. For those who find the same issue, you have to use the Platinum edition of Sony Vegas Movie Studio. The regular version does not support HD.

So you just bought a new video camera...
Now how much total have you invested into this web venture so far? |

Dude, you trying to make me feel bad?
I'm way upside-down. No doubt about that. Let's just say it's more than 5k but less than 15k. I do make some money on one of the clips sites. And I do make SOME money off my website. While I am upside-down, I've calculated that I could make every penny of it back in about 5 months if I just stopped shooting altogether and did nothing. If I stopped shooting and spent time marketing the sites, which I currently have a plan in place to do, then I would hopefully make it back sooner. I also take into consideration that I could probably sell my scenes to someone for maybe $300 per. So, that would get me out of this industry and leave me no worse for wear yet with a world of education. What was your reason for asking that question? |

Congrats on the new camcorder!
And remember, as I said in a previous post, your PC has to be strong enough to edit that video. The first PC I captured to couldn't really handle it (even though it was less than a year old). So, I bought a new 24" iMac with 4 gigs of RAM that handles the video flawlessly. For simple editing, the built-in iMovie software handles HD, or you could spend a little more for Final Cut Express 4 at $199. That'll get the job done. |

Yeah, I hear ya Ledrak. I know. Sometimes I'm an idiot. Alot of times actually. I just can't help myself when pretty girls agree to do dirty things with me on camera.
Also, I'm going to get basically 7 complete scens for about $2100 in the next three days so I just couldn't turn that down. Then, I've got plenty of content to update my site enough to not piss anyone off while I learn the other aspects of adult sites. Hunter, I've only been playing with the camera thus far but it seems to be working fine. Of course, I haven't tried rendering a clip longer than 60 secs so I'm sure that hit will come soon. Thanks for your advice on that. |

Regardless of processor speed, you'll find that encoding the video to final format is only bearable if you set your system up to do it while you are away...
On the last site I did, I batched 10 or so videos to compress to 3 formats each... and I came back 2 days later and it was still chugging away.

. I think I did 6 in a 3 day period before, and learned my lesson the hard way.

LOL, No
I will do two "sessions" myself from which I will get 4 scenes. I have a girl doing her BF for one of the other "sessions" which again, I'm going to pull two scenes from. Then, there's this "maybe" girl who's 18, 4-11, 85 pounds who wants to do a oral-only scene so I'll just work that in there somewhere if she shows. |
