Question re blog pages, redirects and DNS A

Newbie help is needed, guys. I started working on a more long-term project shall we say.

Found a great looking WP theme that I'm working on modifying.

It's one of those themes that have tabs on the top for your pages.

The site I want to build I want to make more interactive and community oriented and multi-dimensional so to speak, so I've added tabs for a forum and for a gallery page and for chat/cam.

Now, I'm wondering how to proceed.

I'm thinking about using a VOD sponsor skin/custom movie theater thing for the video page, installing either Vbulletin or maybe even trying simplemachines since this is my first effort in this realm for the forum, and maybe creating an iframe to customize/mask the webcam sponsor.

Now I looked at the couple of VOD sponsors that I have, none of which convert very well, but they say to make a DNS alias, which I guess they mean I would create a subdomain as in

videos.mysite.com

Ok so if I create that page, could I just put in a htaccess file to 301 that blog page to that subdomain?

Ditto for the forum page.

The webcam thing is something further down the line and I don't have the brain space for that right now but am I making sense or am I completely confused?

Well your doing the same thing I am, even a bit more. If you got the cash to get Vbulletin I would go with that.

I'm using a left side menu for mine, but having top tabs look better IMO. I'm just using the left theme cause I'm use to it.

I know NOTHING about cams, so I'm no help there. I also would like to know how to best link an outside page to a blog. You always could make a "cam" page, then have a link in that page to the outside page.

I already do that to link to my gallery uploader page in my picture gallery page.

If your going to do all that, I would also suggest a chat room too. Lots of people love those, but I personally hate them. That's all the help I can be.

Yeah, I am doing something similar to what you're doing, we talked about this a while back, and I'll show you what I'm coming up with once I get something going.

What do you know about chat rooms? Is there some kind of open source thing you can do to create one? Would it burn your bandwidth to no end?

Someone I had coffee with today told me about a place that you use their bandwidth and only takes 10 minutes to install. Can't remember the name, maybe he will see this and tell you. If I remember I'll let ya know.

I'm loopy, overtired, and silly.

I'm going to stay away from the chat room idea at the moment, I'd rather explore more ways to get $ from cam sites - that at least since it's live is probably an industry that can't be pirated, logically speaking.

But what about the whole redirect thing? Will a 301 do the trick without having to create subdomains?

Hmm me wonders why you don't go to the various big affiliate programs...

No ref codes here or anything, but for a VoD theatre, go see the HotMovies or AEBN People...

Or for webcams you can always go to the Webcamcash tools or Camz, from which you can plug something into any page for your referral benefit...

Start with easy and free tools, you don't need to mess with custom frames and redirects or htaccess....

Concentrate on setting up the bait or targets, and start throwing the traffic at it, then you'll see if it's worth getting into the more involved stuff, or if your energy is better spent elsewhere.

If you start making money, your traffic is good, you can start sharpening it, trimming out what doesn't convert, nurture the qualified sources, and when you realize you're making just a fraction of what you could make on your own, not just commissions... then start getting into the big projects...

OK so for a simple project, let's say I just want a custom theater from either AEBN or Hot Movies, and maybe get VBulletin but I want to link from the pages tab since it's already there.

So as an example, let's say the tabs on top read

Home__About__Movies__Forum__Etc

Since this is all in WP those would just take you to a blog page so I can't install the Vod or Forum on a blog page, I'm guessing I need to create a subdomain as in movies.mysite.com and forum.mysite.com

Now how do I redirect that page to the subdomain, would that be with an htaccess file to 301 mysite.com/movies to movies.mysite.com?

Does this make any sense or am I totally confused?

Why do those links have to take you to a WP page? You can code links within your header to simply take you to movies.yoursite.com

I've got a whole navigation bar in my leftbar.php on my blog with links to all manner of other sites.

Basically... We also have galleries, free-minute promos, community sites.... And we definately have TV/TS, Ladyboys - In fact, those are some of our best niches!
