Getting Linked By The Hun

Finally figured out how to structure a gallery for The Hun. He's linked to two galleries in the past week. Even getting some conversions. Mainly from my toon site galleries though.

I had a gallery submitter for years but it went kaput about a year ago. Didn't realize how important those gallery submitters were. Then Shemp came in and hooked me up and Hun came in and hooked me up.

Now to optimize the traffic. What would you do? I can't go changing galleries once they're submitted so I have to figure out how to make the best of this traffic.

I'm sure a lot of us submit to the hun. He either approves my galleries or puts them in the overflow depending on how often i submit. It's a lot of traffic but the conversions suck.

I occasionally will get a sale from him but i'd say the hun conversion ratio is about 1:500000.

It strikes me funny when someone gets excited about getting listed on The Hun like there's some kind of secret formula and now they're in clover. Like Balls said, Hun traffic sucks and if you're not using a free host, you'll probably pay more for bandwidth than you make.

Gotta disagree with you on that one Hammer. Bandwidth isn't even a problem. My host kicks ass.

As for Hun traffic sucking, only if you post a gallery that sucks.

I don't push galleries of big sponsors because the stuff is already played out and oversaturated. Every gallery I've had posted over the past 6 months that got accepted was unique rare content that did indeed make some sales.

Took me a while to figure out what type and format of gallery Hun liked but having known him for 12 years now and rarely having submitted I now feel more comfortable in doing the pro level job that is turning a profit.

Sure his traffic is huge but it lasts a lonnnnnng time just from one gallery.

I'd like more tips on maximizing profit potential which is why I posted here.

That's so far from the truth it's funny. TGP traffic sucks period, no matter how great your galleries are. I'm not saying they don't make money at all for people that have unique content but for 99% of webmasters, even the ones that can build a good gallery, the conversion rates suck and that's why most of them are switching to blogs (splogs).

I would guess that the people making money on TGP still are the people that got into it years ago.

However, if you have a very unique niche, I can see how this may still be profitable.

Personally, I've never jumped into the TGP game simply because of the incredible expense in bandwidth while you are learning the ropes.

Unique, rarity are the keywords here.

Bandwidth is no problem anymore. Newer hosts are magnificent. A real breakthrough.

I submitted to the Hun off and on for about 6 months. He put up a gallery that I submitted 3 months earlier that I had built myself so therefore was hosting it. My hosting is Servage which is decent for what I do and the amount of money I make. I had to pull the gallery down since I got so much traffic on it the first day. He never posted any of the free host stuff I sent in so I thought I would try the other way. So...you do get traffic.

I never said you don't get traffic, I said the conversions suck.

And Greg, I'm not arguing with you that YOU might be doing OK on TheHun, I'm saying that telling newbies that they will do good on TheHun just because you did is misleading since it's highly likely they won't but they will burn a lot of bandwidth and probably lose rather than make money. I would never recommend submitting a gallery to TheHun until you've submitted to other TGPs and know you can make galleries that convert.

That's a very good point Hammer.

I made that mistake first go, got 7k of unique traffic with zero conversions! If the gallery's are not compelling enough, it's almost a waste of time. Almost!

Yeah. My first gallery to TheHun was in 2002. Back then there was less traffic & bandwidth was a lot more expensive.

Exactly! Had this been 4 months ago I'd be forking over hundreds of $$$ per hun listing.

New host gives so much bw that if I got linked everyday by the hun I still wouldn't burn up my monthly bw bill.

However, when it comes to quality traffic, no one beats the Shemp. Solid as the rock of Gibraltar Shemp's traffic is.

Timelord, I always convert. Especially my toons. It was my dumbass lack of confidence that almost did me in. I underestimated the pull my old gallery submission service used to do.

Now I need a new gallery submitter software.

Also will be building more splogs. Got lots of studying to do.

I submitted a gallery to the Hun back in January. I just sorta dismissed it cuz the gal sucked and I figured I needed to learn the ropes more first. Then, I got an email last week that my gal from January was accepted and would be listed sometime in the next 30 days. Well, guess it hit yesterday. I went from averaging 300 uniques/day to 48,000 uniques yesterday.

I got two signups yesterday. I average one per day anyway so I'm going to assume I got 1 signup in 48,000 uniques.

I will admit that the gal sucked and that the site/tour still sucks so do with this info what you will. Also, it was a pic gal, not a movie gal so luckily I didn't get drilled too hard on the bw. Does theHun even take movie gals? I haven't been there in so long I don't even remember.

Anyway, there's some real-life recent experience from a Noob on TheHun.

Heck, if you get 1 signup a day anyway you didn't need the Hun.

That's a good ratio of 1:300 for a 30 day period especially if you get rebills!

Well, I'm trying to make a living doing this so 1 signup per day at $30/pop ain't gonna cut it:-) It's my site so I do get rebills but still...I'm nowhere near "making a living". Especially after the girls, the hotel rooms, the supplies, hosting, etc.

Heck, I make more off of one of the clips sites than I do on my own site.

This board is invaluable by the way. Thanks to anyone who's answered questions I've had if I forgot to thank you specifically in that thread.
