Rotating Blog Posts?
I've seen this concept bandied about but I'm not sure I get it. Do you use some kind of plugin to rotate your blog posts to make it seem as if the post is new? I can't imagine how the SEs wouldn't be able to catch on to that and was wondering if there's any value in it. If so, what plugins do you use to do this?

That 's crazy. Any search engine can easily tell it's the same damn one. If they search hundreds of thousands of sites in seconds you think they can't see a post switched on one site?
I don't see how it's bad, as it's just moving pages around. Not like they would mark you down or anything. But it's pointless.

I think it was Wankmaster that wrote LazyBlog. As far as the SE effects to using it I can't speak. I can see it having some pretty legitimate uses though.

I've never heard this one before but I'm guessing the idea is to recycle old posts that most of your visitors have probably never seen. If that's the idea, there is a much better option. I added the "related posts" plugin to my site and it works great. You can set some options but on Hammer Uncut (which I haven't updated in a long time I know), I set it up to show 3. The script automatically finds any post that is somehow related to the new post and lists links to those posts at the end of the new post. It's a great way to get traffic to old posts.
Of course, archives and categories are a good idea in that regard as well.

Basically it means you can set up a blog with X number of posts, and then you turn on the plugin to start re-publishing the posts. It takes an old post, presumably the oldest, and re-publishes it as a new post.
I don't think the search engines would even notice because it doesn't duplicate the posts, it re-posts it.. probably by just changing the date on the post. This is definitely not a tool for someone who has a quality handwritten blog. It's a splog tool. |

I've used rotators but sometimes they fuck up and you end up with a mess by the time you realize they have added code that you didnt want or sent every post to draft status for the last month.
It is definitely a splog tool, but never noticed any benefit from it.

I think Hammer is posting a much better alternative for getting traffic to old posts.
What I'm really looking for is a plugin that will make it easy to link to old posts in the sidebar. I would like a little section called "featured posts" that would randomly display a list of a certain number of old posts. |

Here is pretty cool archiving plugin...not aware of one that is designed for the sidebar specifically although it is a good idea. Hammer is right that related posts is a nice one and this one takes it a step further but is pretty complicated... http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/simple-tags/ Here is one that will list older posts by rating in a widget... http://lesterchan.net/portfolio/programming.php All of the Lester Chan plugins are top notch BTW...
