Resubmit Sitemap Help With Google Woes?
Hi all
So my google traffic on my best site is still down to less than zero and shows no sign of looking up. But when I google site:mysite.com it shows 80-90% of my posts. But today I checked webmaster tools just now and it said out of the 450 or so posts, only 20 are indexed via the sitemap. Is resubmitting a site map something that could help? BTW I don't use sitemaps anymore for new sites. ANy help? |

Damned good question. Did you create the site map using Google's site map generator thingy?

I can't remember. I have a google sitemap generator plugin installed, but I'm drawing a blank right now.
It can't possibly hurt, can it? At this point nothing will. |

I've read mixed opinions on whether the google sitemap plugin helps or hurts you. I can't remember why on earth it would hurt you though, but I remember deciding against using it.

Here's a FAQ for it. I suppose there's a limit on how often you can create one but I'm not finding it.

Hmmm.. I'm stumped. Do you guys think that maybe actually removing the sitemap would help? I'm really at a bit of a loss here; most of my traffic to this site is coming from hardlinks from friends, directories and link dumps; not very productive natch and if I had ANY kind of SE traffic coming in for those keyword rich pages, I'd be doing 200% better.
It gets weirder. I just checked google webmaster tools. It's giving me 5-6 URL's that "can't be found" under the "warnings" for this domain. When I click on that link as in, example www.mysite.com/i-love-tits/ it takes me to a 404 on my site that says "sorry but youre looking for something that can't be found" When I go to my site, and look for that page it's there as plain as the nose on my face. When I cut & paste that URL to go to that page manually, it's there as well. It only doesn't come up when I click on it from google webmaster tools. I'm about to start pulling my hair out! |

I've already said I'm paranoid and I'm sure some people use the Google webmaster tools to great success but I see it like this. With everything Google does, do you really think they would give you the tools to rank better?
Analytics with conversion tracking cracks me up the most. Why tell Google what you are paying for clicks and what your ROI is? That's like Best Buy publishing their wholesale prices in the Sunday flyer. I know if it was my company I would raise your CPC till your ROI was barely profitable. In fact, it wasn't long after analytics was released there was a sudden surge in mandatory minimum for thousands of keywords. But that was years ago and I don't do the PPC thing anymore. Too stressful. |

You're right but 8 months ago or more when I started this blog, it was recommended that I submit a sitemap.
What the hell is a sitemap really anyway and why would my laboriously worked on pages disappear from the index according to webmaster tools but still show up under site:mysite.com? I'm still sore about this b/c I don't get it. Any more opinions? |

What's the upshot, should I use the sitemap plugin when setting up a new blog?

PB, what site are you talking about. Is it the one I traded links with a long time ago?

No, another one. That one was my first blog effort, I probably update once a month, it looks like crap compared to my recent efforts now that I'm getting the hang of it, but the traffic is holding steady with around $2K a day.
I'll send you a PM right now. |
