I notice on my dashboard page it has a notice that my version of WP is out of date and to please update it. Sounds like a good way to screw things up to me.
Anybody done an update and if so did you have any problems?

That's what I hate the most about wp blogs. Updating them.
There is a plug in by http://www.zirona.com/ called instant upgrade that works wonders. It allows you to easily update your wp to the version of your choice with the c lick of a button. Updates are one of the reason I went away from WP on all my newer blogs. Even with this plug in doing it to many blogs is a pane. |

I think it's always best to stick with the version you are using unless there is a security risk and the update is highly advised.
Updates present the potential for things to break and go wrong, and that's the last thing you want on a blog that's getting traffic. However, having said all that, I have successfully upgraded a blog a few times and not had issues. |

Well then I'm going to leave mine alone. I will be starting some new ones down the road. If that latest version is way better than what I have now, I may try to upgrade. Otherwise I don't think there is anything too bad with my version. Thanks.

I have tried to update 2 or 3 of my blogs previously and every attempt has screwed up.
I feel like I should upgrade but I know it will cause more problems than it will solve. |

I think it's better to use a new version when you launch a new site, and see what you think of it. If it's really amazing, then maybe it's worth the pain of trying to upgrade an old blog.
The key to a successful upgrade is BACKUP BACKUP BACKUP. Be sure you backup everything properly. There are very good instructions on how to upgrade your wordpress on the wordpress site itself here: http://codex.wordpress.org/Upgrading_WordPress_Extended |

the only reason I want to upgrade is because in my "writing" panel, the actual place where you write doesn't have a WYSISWG tab anymore, there is just the code part
so I normally just write and format posts in dreamweaver then copy the code into wordpress any experience with this?

You may have rich text turned off. From your dashboard, far top right is a "my profile" link, click that.
First thing you'll see is a box for "use visual editor when writting". If it's not checked, all you see is code view. To get format view, click it. If that's not it, I don't have a clue to help you.

I don't post here often, but this subject got my attention at Boards Scanner. I have to tell you Word Press has made a major mess of itself.
Obviously going from the old 1.5 to 2.0 folks expected things to be different and they were. That's about two-to-three years ago now as we're in the 2.x era. WP 2.1 however made more changes and 10% of all plugins stopped working. 2.2 was a bug fix from 2.1 that fixed over 600 security loop holes. WP 2.3 the current one, the morons made such deep major changes that now 50% of all WP plugins no longer work. When people complained, the major programmers said "it's free, you don't like it, shut up" .... Nice attitude since it's the plugin folks spending a combined millions of manhours working on plugins had everything they did and support stop working. Of those plugins that stopped working (as said, half of all of them) the programmers have said they are stopping right there and won't update it, partly because of the core programmers' attitude and changing major core functions to be uncompatible. In short, when you get to 2.2 -- stop. I know because a few months ago I went up to 2.3 on two blogs. Found 70% of my plugins and half my templates didn't work anymore. Read up on the problem and had to *down*grade back to WP 2.2 and everything worked fine again.

WP
Well, their new version was the first I tried to install and it didn't load the templates. The next nearest one didn't either, so I loaded 2.2. It gives me '' when I ask for ', in other words can't becomes can''t and then when I edit the post it becomes can''''t, but besides that it's working. Anyone else have that problem? Personally, I'd stay away from the update.

Hi folks, If WP doen't ring your bell then try Serindipity or b2Evolution. And it would be nice if the WP crew worked together and got the next 2.x right!

my company's cPanel didn't have an update for the latest vers of WP. Long story.... now it's so smooth just two button pushes and poof all done and updated.
They must've really worked hard on making that upgrade go so smoothly.
