Wanna see a good porn blog?
We talk a lot about blogs on Cozy and the differences between a good blog and a bad splog and lots of people ask to see examples of a good porn blog. So, here's one that I think is my idea of an excellent porn blog. The posts are well written and interesting and not just a bunch of links to galleries. Alexa rank is 4,644, btw.
http://fleshbot.com/ The main thing I notice about most porn blogs is that most of you think every post has to be made for the purpose of making money and don't realize that if your blog is interesting and people keep coming back, they'll be exposed to your advertising in a much more effective way. Too many bloggers have a TGP mentality, IMO.

OOhhh, I am so glad you posted this Hammer! See, I've been working on my CD adult blog, and I have been making mine with a lot of non porn post and stuff. Compaired to most adult blogs that seems "different", as most are post after post of porn selling stuff.
So I thought, damn if I'm too different maybe it's not right. BUT, the site you posted is EXACTLY what I have in mind! A good site with lots of real, interesting post, with sections to go to for the "real" porn. I'm having several sections that have nothing to do with porn, but of interest to the crossdresser community. Then I will have a review page, dating page, stuff like that. So, this shows me I'm on the right track. I am surprised at the lack of banners or even links on the sidebar. Most sites have a ton of them, this place only has a few. It almost looks unfinished? Very slick layout too, I wish my theme was like that. They even have an amazon.com banner! Not much of a title though, pure filth? But hey, looks like they know what their doing. Thanks for posting it, got it bookmarked.

You lost me on the "not much of a title, pure filth" comment.
Did you notice that they get $400 a week for the Black Label Ads (Adbrite) in the left sidebar and they have quite a few in the rotation. http://www.blacklabelads.com/mb/comm...roduct_id=9644 According to Black Label Ads they get 98,000 uniques a day and 460,000 page views but based on the stats for my own sites in that network, those stats are low and they get far more traffic than that. They also have DoubelClick banners on every page.

Notice how in this post they review a porn video but it's a real review with screen grabs and not just some bullshit they copied from someplace. And obviously, they have a link at the end of the review so readers can go buy the video.

That is a super high quality blog, definitely somewhere that's going to attract a LOT of readers, and bookmarkers.
It kind of makes you realize that to do a blog right, you really need to make one and have it become your main focus. |

Interesting that you posted this. The first blog I started in my niche was suppose to be something like that, with stories, news etc., but I just couldn't keep with it for a lack of things to write about. But now that I know a bit more I may give it another go.

In my Bilinda blog almost a third of my post have nothing to do with transgenders. Everybody has the same problems, needs, frustrations. Write about those too and they have even more reason to come back. Just have a few pages that are just porn so when they are looking for just that, it's always there and easy to find.

fleshbot has been around as a blog style site for a long time. You likely aren't going to replicate that sort of success today, much the same as no one will ever build another thehun.
It's also nice to see they are allowing freepornlessons.com to advertise on their site. |

There's no reason why someone can't create another Fleshbot. It's not the same as a TGP that has nothing but links to porn galleries. Each blogger has his or her own style and since blogs do extremely well on the SEs, anyone that writes a decent post has as good a chance of getting good listings as anyone else. Personally I don't think there's any comparison between a good blog and a TGP.
The reason that it's virtually impossible to create another major TGP is because it's extremely tough to get enough traffic going in the first place to trade with other TGPs which is the primary way they generate traffic. Blogs don't operate the same way.

Good ol' Fleshbot. I've brought them up before on other threads as a fine example of a quality blog but with certain questions in tow, some of which I'll repeat now.
Like Crockett said, it would be extremely hard to replicate that kind of success. For starters they're owned by Gawker which also publisher Defamer and a bunch of other sites. They actually haven't been around as long as the hun, probably around 4 years or so in total but they're heavily branded like the hun and don't need to worry about stupid shit like me bitching about google traffic. That branding also means that some of their recent sites that they've been adding to their portfolio so to speak, like http://jezebel.com/ which was supposed to be kind of like a female oriented fleshbot is not as popular, natch. Question is, how do you build that type of branding when you are also relying on SE traffic when you're starting out. This is a corporate entity, not me sitting in my Hollywood apartment, chain smoking and trying to figure out another creative way to describe what it's like to have your dick sucked. They have a tech staff, PR people, the works. OK that's the half empty part. Now for the half full: Can it be done solo? Possibly. One can bring up the lo-fi origins of Hefner and Flynt and whoever. But with the internet? I'm feeling disheartened. Looking at Jezebel, stats say "51 POSTS IN THE LAST 24 HOURS." Fleshbot has 22 or so. Now I could potentially come close to that, working on one site all day, but if those posts disappear from google it will take years before you build up a readership and will be essentially working for free. You can work for free for a couple of hours a day, but you will never have that amount of content. And my site that just lost 80% of its SE traffic for no apparent reason is heavily influenced by Fleshbot in terms of the type of content I write about: porn, art, news, oddities, etc. The thing is, if you're all over the map in terms of the variety of content, it seems that google's newest algos aren't going for it. The point is, Fleshbot owes its success to a lot of other factors than just throwing up a blog and writing about stuff that interests you, be it smut or something else. Any thoughts? I never went in with my blog with an attitude that I will be the next fleshbot owes a lot to other factors than the techniques most of us are using. Yes, part of it is that they came up relatively early in the blogging game the way hun, al4a, shemp, etc did, but it's more than that and I'd be curious to hear any opinions. They certainly didn't get where they are by 'exchanging links'

I've seen your posts about fleshbot PB and I agree that most people won't be able to match their success. But if you can match 10% of their success you will be doing better than most people who call themselves webmasters. Plus, when you have a decent site people like to read, your traffic is much more stable as long as you keep working at it. Changes in the google algo rarely will wipe you out.

Yeah that's what I was going for, the 10% or even less, I'd be doing okay and I was and thought it was just going to get stronger until google took me swiftly and suddenly from behind.
I'm not wiped out completely and maybe this is temporary but 3 days ago, 3700 uniques, today 600 so far. That's close to being wiped out. And I do have plenty of recurring visitors and inbound links. I'll keep on slogging I suppose but right now still licking my wounds. BTW, Flesh's business model is the ye olde proven one: advertising, which they make around 2-3$ MM from per year last I read. And that's from Fleshbot itself and not including Jezebel and Defamer and Gawker and everything else. My guess is that any affiliate or cross marketing revenue they get is probably 5% of their gross. BTW Fleshbot has helped me out when I sent them a "tip" about something interesting I found and wrote about which they reblogged and gave a link back to me for. Each time that brought me an extra 5-10K visitors for the week that the plug was up. Unfortunately they find the cool stuff first, so it's a race.

It's all about marketing (and writing interesting articles ofcourse).
No matter how good youre posts are, you wont get any visitors if they don't find you

It amazes me how every time I post something intended to inspire you folks we inevitably get the naysaysers saying it can't be done. You know how I've managed to be successful in every one of my business ventures? I've never told myself it couldn't be done.
So, you can either look at that site as an example of a good porn blog which was the entire point of my post or you can sit around thinking of reasons why you won't be able to be successful. Just out of curiosity, where in my post did I say that I thought anyone could achieve the same level of success? I simply posted this as an example of what I consider to be a good porn blog for those of you that are always asking what one looks like. Jesus fucking Christ.

As I said in my first post, I am very glad you posted this, because I really needed to see an example of a successful adult site that has the format I have in mind for my crossdresser blog. They say to think outside the box, but too far out is not good. So I was having second thoughts about if my idea was good, since all the adult blogs I've seen are just post after post of "click here now to see this shemale midget do this black guy while two femdoms with strapons do her and him now!!" NOW that I see my format can be succesful, I'm going to go ahead and build it, not ask for any advice, just go and get it done the way I think it should be. Which is: A crossdresser community with a "bar" type style, funny post, helpful post, pages of cosmetic tips, news, what's new, where to get it, game page, poll page, toon page. Then for adult, sprinkle in a post every 5 or so with a site, new toy, dvd or whatnot. I'll have a dating page, my own gallery page, review page, and a plain old "here's all the porn places" page. Oh, and a forum. So thanks Hammer, your post made up my mind, I'll let everyone see my site AFTER it's done.

I really like the blog framework..and I take my hat off to those that create blogs that look/feel and read like a regular site. So many today look and feel like bullentin boards where the owner stuck a post-it note up and ran out the door.
Fleshbot doesnt seem like a post-it and run type of site and f draws visitors back time and time again. |
