There are loads of free ones. In this respect, Google is your friend.

I used DW a few years ago, when learning html. Ever since I picked up the basics and tried a few other apps, I have failed to see the attraction of DW. The $ tag makes it even less attractive.

Nowadays, I wouldn't think of using an editor, not even the best of the free ones. Give hand coding another try once you have picked up a bit more. You'll love it once you realise it has no peer when time is of the essence.

Tip: google for nvu - three letter name, not a spelling mistake.

There is really no web page editor out there better than Dreamweaver just like there is no image modifcation program better than photoshop. If people are trying to tell you different (not implying anyone in this thread was) they are either misinformed or working some personal agenda.

Old folks and self proclaimed intellectuals don't like innovation unless they are the ones who create it. Old folks because they are stuck in their ways and intellectuals because they don't like the idea of the little guy getting ahead without his brains being necessary. Old isn't necessarily chornological; it can be a state of mind.

Dreamweaver is not going to replace knowledge of coding or anything else. Think of Dreamweaver and all wysiwygs this way. If you were in war, would you want to use a sling shot, a revolver or an automatic to deliver your bullets. You can do the same damage to the target with a sling shot and bullet if you know what you're doing, but I wouldn't advice it. On the other hand, you can get into a lot of trouble with an automatic weapon if you don't learn how to use it properly (I'd hate to be the guy who emptied my weapon in one spray while my opponent used bursts).

Don't use it to substitute for something you're too lazy to learn, but use Dreamweaver and any other powerful automated program you can get your hands on. There's a reason these programs stick around.

By the way, there's Front Page and Go Live too, but nothing compares to Dreamweaver.

another really easy one to learn is serif's webplus 10 and at 80 bucks its pretty easy in the wallet I just started playig with it, but it's definitly for people who don't know coding at all and I've had problems trying to edit the coding, but still its a really easy point and click program

p.s. there is no trial version on their home page that i could find but if you google trial version of webplus 10 you'll find it.

1) when someone questions your post they are in a round about way telling you your opinion doesn't matter (some not so round about if you follow some threads)

2) For over two years now I've been hearing about all the things I've been doing wrong and what I should be doing, yet I'm still here, my sales are for the most part increasing each and every month and I'm not looking for part time work to keep me going.

3) My answer to the question if it couldn't be pulled out of that. No there is no other wysiwig editor besides Dreamweaver because none compare to it just there is no other image editing program besides photoshop because none compare to that. If you want to waste your time with secondary programs, knock yourself out. If you think you can't use Dreamweaver because you like code, you either a) don't know coding as well as you think you do or b) do not know Dreamweaver at all.

It doesn't clear anything up. Your basic assumption is that everyone you address uses M$ or Mac as their platform. I don't nor do a hell of lot more people. I have yet to see any proof at all that users of other platforms and in particular the 'nix based ones produce lower quality work than DW or PS users. From which I can only conclude that the software or our coding capabilities are not as weak as you assume.

It's not about the quality of the work so much as it's about the speed, and ease at which you can push a certain amount of work out.

But you are correct that I am assuming, the person is using Microsoft or Mac and not Linux as their periphrial OS. I didn't think someone asking if there were other wysiwig page editors would be at the level of using Linux as their base operating system. Plus I believe they said they were using Dreamweaver to begin with.

With these two later facts I wouldn't recommend downgrading. You will not be comfortable

I don't want to fall out with anyone on this board, simply on the basis that most people make a great contribution here and you have all helped me tremendously.

There are times, though, we all have to recognise that opinions differ, that there is no room for "religious fervour" regarding technology because there are so many ways to achieve the same thing and that there is no such thing as "right and wrong" ways to do it, not even a "best" way.

It is pretty damned nice for MS. Makes some really nice xhtml compliant code and is a far cry from the old frontpage versions however it still has a familiar feel. My only complaint is the FTP is slow and awkward to set up on some servers that I have encountered.
