Does anyone know how to add a background sound (loop) to wordpress? I figure I'd ask here since someone has to of at least tried it, and I'm sick of browsing google. I can't seem to do it the way I used to do it in an html page (java code in the header).
Here's what I'm looking to find out. 1) what type of sound file do I need? 2) what's the code? 3) which (wp) file do I place the code into so it's embed (no visual player) and so that it loops continually (or maybe even plays once on refresh or when clicking on a post or category link, etc.) Thanks

Forget this. I got it.
Do have a question though - just opinions. Any strange site that asks you to activate active x will probably make surfers unfamiliar with the site click the back button, don't you think?

Yeah, I think they'd hit the back button. For what it's worth, sound on websites annoys many people, too. But, if you still need an easy way to embed sound, you can check this out.
http://www.draac.com/html10.html It's old school, but might be what you are looking for. I think you can use midi or wav files that way and could probably put the code anywhere between the <body></body> that you want. |

Avoid active-x. It's M$'s way of spying on you to see if your version of their crap is "legit". Which leaves a gaping hole, sidestepping your own expensive anti-malware, for any other spyware or malware to come in through IE.
It is no accident or popularity poll which makes M$ IE vulnerable. It is its inherent insecurity. M$ is far, far more interested in its revenues than your protection. The level of IE insecurity varies with the number of its "features" you have switched on or off. If you must use IE, the more fool you. But at least have the sense to switch active-x off. |

Thanks, guys. I'll probably dump it, but I'm trying to find new beads and bells to spice things up.
I could go with flash, but In IE, I think you have to activate that too. As far as avoiding IE, I don't see that in the Stars. Even if you do it yourself at very least 2/3's of visiting surfers use it and I don't see that going down anytime soon. Microsoft will change their tactics even if that did start to happen.

I would avoid autoloading sounds on websites but if you must, I would go with a tiny flash object. You can disable the "activate this control" thing with a snippet of java script code. But if it's auto-start that shouldn't come up.

Most people just don't like it. Maybe the younger generation is more at ease with it since every myspace page you visit plays a song but if this is for adult, many people surf secretly while the wife is asleep or even surf at work. But like I said, I bet younger people don't mind it as much as us old timers.

Hi, porn punk, my point was not to avoid IE surfers, you'd lose far too high a proportion of your potential market. Not only in the USA, either. Just don't use anything that requires any specific feature of IE to be set in order for it to work.
Apart from the security issue, Firefox now has one third or more of the browser market and growing, so that's also a hell of a sized chunk to lose. On the question of personal choice, I don't like having other people's musical (sic) taste foisted on me and leave a site very quickly if I can't find an immediately obvious way to turn it off. I thought that was a foible of my own but was pleasantly surprised recently to see the results of a survey showing that I am among a huge majority of web users. Trouble is, I can't remember the source because this isn't the first time I'd have loved to offer it in corroboration. |

On the other hand, you can't really activate anything on my blog without clicking to my galleries or sponsors so I have to think this through. All it is is a little cultural loop to spice up a specific niche

i can't fucking stand it when a site pops up with loud, annoying "music" and no immediately apparent way of shutting it off. |
