Paysites: Image Size Options for Users?
So I've been inside a LOT of paysites in my day, and I've noticed that everyone has a different idea of what size images to offer their surfers. Some even give multiple choices.
Usually paysites offer very high resolution images, and a lot of sites these days have images that are enormous (1000+ pixels on the long side). What I want to know is, if you are offering images that huge, do the surfers honestly like it? I mean, most people have to scroll to view the entire image, and that doesn't honestly sound so great to me. If you offer smaller images so they are easier to view, should you still offer the large size images in case people want them? What is the best size image to give to people? |

in response to your question about scrolling down to see the image... I think that surfers buying memberships are saving the pics for their own collection anyway, so when they view them their image program automatically fits them to the screen, the larger resolution just gives em more detail.

I have been trying to sort this out too.
I was thinking of offering an image gallery with thumbs linking to a 72 dpi and about 800 px on the long side for quick online viewing and then a zipped file with the high res set. hmmmm..... is this a good solution? |

That sounds like a pretty good solution rather than having to build double the galleries to provide multiple sizes.
It seems paysites go crazy offering surfers options these days, but which of those options are really necessary and help retain surfers? Will surfers stay longer if you offer two sizes of images? Either way, I'm betting including the zipped files is a good idea. |

I upped my photo sizes to 1400 on the long size a few months back and asked my members for feedback, and was met with resounding silence. Those I asked specifically hadn't even noticed!
Typical males! LOLI have offered zip downloads for the past year though so I assume that anyone having to scroll to see the whole image is just downloading the whole set. I just felt that monitors are getting better, speeds are getting faster, and bigger photos than they can get on most of the free sites are a benefit. |

Do they actually print them or is it just for online viewing pleasures?

I just can't imagine having to wank off with one hand while the other hand scrolls images.

Well, this is coming from a no nothing again, but I think you would be amazed in what the ordinary surfer uses images for (wether he shold or shouldn't) and the highest quality is always best as far as selling goes (speaking from a prepress/printing background).
What amazes me is some sponsors offer the higher rez to the affiliates and you have to downsize them for some tgp scripts to accept them. And other sponsers only give out screencaps (probably thinking that movies are the only thing that really sell these days) and you get rejected. But as far as the ordinary surfer, I'd offer the highest quality I could without hurting myself. Believe it or not some people aren't just whacking off to this stuff. They're into art and etc. so to speak (i'm serious about this). they'd like to be able to print them even if they aren't going to.

Oh I definitely knew there were lots of people out there that wanted to print the photos.
I just wonder how many want that high quality image to show up on the screen. Are they happy with a zip, or is it better to offer thumbnail galleries with small and large image options so that people can print only the specific images they want? |

Hi folks, Now that we can link our computers to big screen plasma or LCD TV's the high resolution images are......well, lifesized! Which is a bonus for the visually impaired guys and girls.

The question of what size to present pictures in paysites has been pondered since the days of Socrates. My solution is to post the picture in a size that fits the most common screen resolution of my visitors (which in my case is 700 high) so they dont have to scroll, but to make the picture a hyperlink to open a larger version. Will it take longer for my pages to load? Yes. Do I care? No. Because anyone using dialup these days is not someone I want joining my site anyway.
