Is a video page on my blog a good idea?

Hope everyone had a good weekend! I had to get some stuff done over the weekend, but I'm diving into getting my blog done and out there later this week.

Been trying to figure out how to get more substance to my blog. I thought about having a page with utube and so on videos of the latest crossdresser videos out there. Not any nude ones, glamore, how to put on makeup, stuff like that.

I already started the page, but I see you can easily click on the picture and be sent to the utube page. I don't want that. Anyone know how to stop a click from going outside your page? Also does it make any sense to have a video page when they can just go to utube anyway? Thanks much!

just embed the video

copy the entire embed code from utube and insert it in your post. post the code in your html window, not the rich text window.

then the video will play on your page.

I almost forgot that there may be a chance that the rich editor will screw up the embed code. if this happens, turn off the rich editor in wordpress options, you can turn it back on once you post the video.

I wouldn't create a dedicated page for you videos, just post a video once in a while along with some commentary and like BD said, just embed it. Look at my blog, you'll see that every few days I embed a YouTube video as part of a post.

Hmm, ok, something more for me to learn, hehe. I'll go in and learn how you embed in rich verse non rich. You have to remember I've only been playing with WP for two weeks. Thanks for the other tips you pm'ed me balls!

Hammer, I guess your right, most of the vids my readers will have already seen anyway. I'll just post them as a regular post here and there, or as a double post for the same day.

Once I get my picture page working, a page where all my readers can submit their own pictures, I''ll also let them post videos, non porn of course. That makes more sense. Just got to find a good program they can use to submit their stuff with. Thanks!

Um, I can't seem to find any place where you switch from rich text to the other, in options or any other place. Could someone show me the location? Or do you mean the visual verses code view? Thanks again.

Trust me Hammer, I look at the docs before I ask questions here. But the WP docs tend to be so long and all over the place that you keep going in circle jerks!

There is nothing in the back end of WP 2.3.1 that says anything about switching from rich text to simple. There is a form that has UT-8 code or something like that on it. I assume that is what balls meant. But if you click on a hyperlink with it, it just shows you about 50 different codes, explaining nothing about what is a simple text.

Anyway my last post has a utube video, and it seems to work fine. BUT, if you try to edit it, you have to repaste the code in it.

i used the latest wp, then switched back to the stable version (2.0.2) but did manage to post utube stuff correctly on the latest version.

you can turn off the editor in the latest version, look through the options a few times, it should be somewhere in "writing".

always use the code editor not the visual one.

I haven't used the rich editor for so long I don't remember how I turned it off. It seems like I made a mod to the code because I just checked and the box next to "Users should use the visual rich editor by default" is still checked for me and yet it's not on.

I am now using version 2.1.2. Putting the videos is as easy as clicking on the Code tab while writing the post and pasting the YouTube or Google embed code. Although there are times when this is not 100%. Try clicking on the Users tab, find your user name and click on Edit. There is a “Your Profile Tab” and a box that say’s “Use the visual editor when writing”. Check this, and click “Update Profile”. This will allow you to turn off the Editor when typing writing posts. Only problem is you have to format your text in HTML, which becomes a pain. Like I mentioned, embed code in the code tab seems to work most of the time."

Thanks much Hammer. I know all my questions are getting a bit old. I'm at the point now where I'm just gonna get my banners, links and all that on my site, and start making about 3 post a day.

I will add a resource page, turn the page I have now as resource into the shopping mall page, Then see what else I can think up.

I'm trying to get an RSS feed going on some blogs I'm building right now and finding it tough with Blog Organizer, it's got so many options it's confusing me.

Also we have a lot of Flash video samples, so as we are talking about embedding videos how do we embed them off our server?

I could load over 100 if I knew how to code it. The programmer is out today and he might know. I don't.

One thing I've found with some wordpress setups is that you should embed the video as the very last step, and then publish. If you embed it, then go back and change a word or even just go back to the visual rich editor, it will break the post and usually your blog layout and you'll have to delete the embed code and do it over again.

BTW, no need to publish 3 posts a day if that's what you meant. If you are that prolific, save the other two for when you're busy with other projects you can still update the blog.
