The Google Tango
Is this normal? The opposite of EDS whom I congratulate, I'm having a bad week for no apparent reason. Seems like I lost at least 25% of my google traffic over the past 2 days, plus less pages indexed and I didn't do anything different. I have a feeling I may rebound again. I've seen not posting for a couple of days actually help with that. But is this normal to see so much fluctuations? Last week I'd get around 2K uniques to my blog before lunch time. Right now it's 7:15PM and I'm barely scraping by 1500 and that's largely because of the decrease in google searches. I'm confused.

I'll never understand Google either. A while back I used Hammers magic formula of the same words in the title/description/h1. After a couple of weeks I jumped into the top 20 out of hundreds of thousands even millions for those chosen words. I was ecstatic. Then ... I was gone.
Then a few days later I was back again. This went back and forth for a month or so and then just stayed on top. So wtf, who knows. A little plug for Hammer (not that he needs one) is that if you Google any combination of lingerie, tease, fetish, movies, videos i'm usually on the first or second page out of hundreds of thousands. He did that. I asked on this board why I was there then gone then there and never really got a solid answer.

I've heard that Googles doing a Page Rank update. That will fluctuate traffic and page positions until it is over.
If say another week goes by and you still have a problem, Phuckbunny, then you might need to look much futher into new SEO problems.

Matching Your Title and H1/header tags word for word is a spam indicator. Be careful when doing it. <title>Flaming Hemroid Cream</title> <h1>Cream for Flaming Hemroids</h1> is a safer bet than <title>Flaming Hemroid Cream</title> <h1>Flaming Hemroid Cream</title> I am assuming the first is what you ment Lana but I wanted to clarify this for anyone taking it literal.

That's a good call and I agree but what about blog posts? Where does h1 fit in there?

I have been working on my first blog and I did something I think it right, but not sure. In WP, in the theme template I have, the title is in big letters on the left, tagline was smaller on the right.
I noticed that the title was marked h1. But your tagline is more descriptive with more keywords, at least mine is. So I switched the code so the "title" is smaller on the right, tagline bigger on the left. Then put my title on the right, my tagline on the left. But what your saying is that wrong, cause now my title and h1 is the same. But that is the default setting in WP, the title and h1 are the same line, at least in my theme. Should I change it??

So, what is more important, your title or the h1 header?

Google was doing a update quite recently, maybe the update is still going on. During updates sites often go up and down in the search results. You shouldn't worry too much, cause they might go up again. I would say wait a while until google update finishes and hope that you keep your positions.

Keeping fingers crossed. I was in the top ten for a post about Sasha Grey's anal warts and now I'm in the bottom 500.
Idiotic but it used to bring me traffic and sales. |

Google does shuffle now and then but the SERPS are always in flux. For big keywords like "BMW Parts" it's pretty solid but for transient search terms like Sasha Greys anal warts, things are going to be fluid.

Yeah I'm starting to see that doing the shuffle - AND I'm also seeing very explicitly the importance/quality of SE traffic for conversions.

You can actually make decent money with just a few thousand SE hits a day. Plus, you'll only burn about $10 worth of bandwidth a month.

I totally agree and I was getting there and then got lost in the shufle.
Now for transient terms to get into better results would link authority still be the main way to get there despite all the talk I hear about how it's supposedly dead. |
