Traffic: The best tips

Now that I'm getting closer to launching my first site I'm curious what are the best methods for obtainining traffic.

1) free searches? I'm pretty knowledeable on this from my mainstream sites, but interesting enough, I don't seem to see a lot of top adult sites really optimizing their pages. I don't see in title tags and and end of pages search phrase keywording. Are people bothering with this that much, and how come I don't see it? is it effective? Keywords: obviously you cannot use a conventional keywords tool. I guess you just guess your best?

2) Buy traffic. People mention this. It's seems unappealing to me for some reason. How effective is this? what is return on expense generally? who is the best?

3) Reviewers. Submittng you site to all reviewers. Seems like good idea, except that a new site is at it's weaking point as far as content, and bad a review would hurt morale and sales no, a take a long time to shake. unless you believe any publicity is good publicity.

4) affiliates. Find them, how -- is there a master list out there? and send out emails asking to help

5) Consultants, hire to help.

What did I miss? thanks.

For my sites the search engines are the best, because they offer nitched traffic.

I do buy traffic, usually from Ravo

Uh, I think your missing the best one of all, blogs. Make a main blog, build it up, then push your site as well as others. Also make a bunch of smaller ones, submit them to blog lists and such.

Also submit clips to clipdumps, there are thousands of them. Of course these all take time, but well worth it in the long run.

If it is your own paysite that you are launching then you want to offer a affiliate program of your website.

Reading your post...for you I would pick 5

Or start doing a lot of reaserch reading every adult webmaster board in depth.

thanks Sun:
Blogs, it's out of my nature, such a annoying hassle to maintain, but I'll file it away for this cutthroat endeavor.

Clip dumps, you mean tgp galleries, like the Hun etc. I probably would have to hire someone to submit those, right?

Hammer: interesting. My intuition tends to agree, buying traffic reminds me of Google Adwords, which I find ineffective for my mainstream business. I think you need to get it organically, which is what you are saying? (curious though you say not to buy for a paysite, is there a case to buy traffic?)

Cherilyn
I'm thinking of using CCBill and I think they handle the affiliate thing. I'm still green to it. If they don't do it, how does one methodically get affiliates?

No, not tgp sites like the hun, although those can be good too. I was refering to video clip dumps, like
clipdump.com/

It sounds like you are in the same boat I was in 4 years ago. I bought 3 turnkey sites but knew nothing about traffic. I ended up losing everything. After years of seeing all the threads here for 4 years I finally think I know about traffic. Traffic comes first, then paysite, not the other way. If your site is good you'll make it, but you have to really study how to get traffic. Good luck!

I recommend you submit your site to all of the review sites, and build and submit galleries to tgps.

I don't think you will want to worry about an affiliate program until you KNOW that you have 1) a product that sells 2) a product that retains members.

I agree with Monica. Starting an affiliate program for a site that the owner hasn't managed to get traffic to on his own is a bad idea. Typically, the only webmasters that will sign up for an unknown affiliate program for a new site they've never heard of will be newbies and if you offer free hosted galleries and content, all they'll do is use up your bandwidth and over expose your content and send you very little in return. Not to mention the fact that expecting other webmasters to promote a site that you don't even know will convert or retain is kind of cheesy.

And consider this. Let's suppose that your site doesn't convert or retain well yet and you don't know that from personal experience and you spend a lot of time and money promoting your affiliate program. Just think how hard it's going to be to get good webmasters to sign up for your program in the future -- even if by then you've turned it around -- if it's already gotten a bad reputation from webmasters that tried it and shared their dismal results with others.

As for buying traffic, I'm not including Google Adwords or other ppc sources or paid advertising when I talk about buying traffic. I'm referring to buying traffic from Ravo, Choker or any other traffic broker. The only thing that kind of traffic is good for is feeding TGP trades primarily. Sometimes it can work effectively if you send it to a landing page with free to join affiliate programs and some free content and a link to your pay site (sort of a glorified TGP gallery) but you never want to send that kind of traffic directly to a pay site.

Good tips Hammer and others. So I wont bother with affiliates until the site is cooking. But I defintely am putting a site up. you need something to work on to get the ball rolling. (I have creative experience as adult photographer for many years)

Would you not suggest sending traffic to a pay site from Choker's niche sources?

I've never personally tried it and even if I had it wouldn't necessarily mean it wouldn't work, it just may not have worked for me, but I have to go with logic and think that if money could be made by sending the traffic to pay sites, he'd be buying it and using it himself instead of buying it and selling it to someone else.

Newbie Disclaimer: Just because someone says it's not a good idea to do something doesn't mean that it's not worth trying. Just don't go buying $500 worth to test it.
