MPEG, WMV, or QT files for the member's area?
Just a quick question for you guys. I will be using flash for a low resolution file for members, but what do you guys suggest for the high res files?
MPEG4, WMV or QT? Hammer?!?

gotta love the mp4, if you are a surfer and you want quality and versatility that is where you go.
it's also the easiest to steal and convert

MPG4 is only the format. Do you want it to stream? If so use WMV.
MPG4 is also DIVX, XVID whitch are downloadable only. For instant gratification covering all bases I'd use WMV, QuickTime and Flash. Then for high quality downloaders go DIVX or XVID.

Yes we will be streaming, so we will settle on
Flash for low res, and high res MPEG and WMV. Found a great guy who can convert 'em at a great price.

It's a great price because it's so damn easy to do.
Why are you paying someone to convert for you?? Most converting programs are free and the rest you can buy easily for under 200 bucks - total.

Good point Lana. With trying to get all the issues of the site completed. And with a total of 350 scenes to be converted to 2 formats, I thought I'd let it be someone else's headache! But from this point forward, I've got it covered.
What program do you recommend for Mac? I am working on a Powerbook, and have a couple of PC laptops also. Thanks in advance.

Maybe too little too late but, import to your editor. Export as DV. You can convert this file to anything any time.
Buy QuickTime Pro. 20 bucks. Go to FILE>EXPORT and you can render to pretty well any format you want. It's all there. MAC's great that way.

That being said, I will say that I have switched over to .mov files for all of my video now, haven't heard any complaints from my members and the quality with my high def camera exporting in DV is fab. The only thing I don't like is that it takes a little longer to load and I use "_blank" to open the file. I also bought the mac specifically for this purpose. However I do have a question, I had intended on buying the quicktime pro, but got deterred at the apple forum when some posters said after the download they had problems in other areas. Mac does tend at times to create other problems when something is either updated or newly downloaded. Has anyone experienced any problems after going with quicktime pro? Thanks
