I can tell you why your index counter stats differ from your server stats.

A counter installed in the web code on the index page will only work properly when the page is allowed to load entirely. If someone hits "stop" before the entire page loads, or before the part of the code with the counter in it loads, it won't count the hit.

Server stats are always more reliable than a counter. You don't need a counter.

I built a "visitor count" program for my casualporn.com affiliate program which is based on traffic. Since traffic is the currency for that site, it is crucial to make sure it is real.

a) I only count visitors that click on one of the links on my page.

b) I use a few strategically located "invisible link" that cannot be seen by human visitors. If one of those links gets clicked, it is very likely to be by a robot. The IP is then used to cancel any traffic count within a given time period associated with that IP address

Hope that helps

Hi Allice!
Sounds like you're getting your info from your host stats.
I find they over analize to the point of confusion.
Something free like StatCounter will give you reliable stats in a much clearer, more comprehendable way.

Yes Lana, you are right. Altough I would like to know more about hitbot and other stuff use for cheating to defend myself. I have tons of links on my sites and lot of them has to send me fake traffic, cause my daily unique visitors are about 350.
