Vasectomy?

Okay this is a little odd-ball, but I can't post the same question on MySpace because my ex-girlfriend (of only a couple days now) would see it.

So I met a girl that is absolutely perfect in every way for me -- fucking smoking hot, kinky as hell, tattooed sleeves, and makes my heart flutter.

One problem: she really likes kids and wants to have one some day.

I fucking can't stand children, nor do I like condoms. Big catch 22, I know.

I was wondering if any of the gentlemen on this board have had a vasectomy and what was the healing time?

I was thinking about taking a short "vacation" to visit my folks (or whoever) and come back fixed.

Is this possible to get away with over a weekend without anyone noticing?

How long is the after-effect healing time?

Man, at your age I'd sure not recommend it. I didn't want kids when I was a young whipper snapper like you, either, but changed my mind later in life and now I can't imagine not having them. Vasectomies are not always reversible.

Does this girl not take the pill?

First to answer your basic questions:

Yes, it's a quick procedure - about 30 minutes and done under a local anesthetic. Most doctors will give you a consult and then ask you to wait some time - around 1 month - before committing yourself to the surgery. You can go home the same day and back to work usually in a few days. When can you have sex? It is advisable to wait about a week. Remember for the first 15-20 ejaculations sperm will still be present in your system, so use another form of contraception until semen analysis shows that sperm are no longer present in your seminal fluid.

Now dude... If Hammer's comments haven't made you at least think twice about - He makes perfect sense bro - take a look at this.

**note** I copied most of this from menshealth.about.com

Quote:
Vasectomy Side effects and Surgical Complications

As with any surgical procedure, there can be some side effects, but major complications are very rare.

Pain. Any pain or discomfort should stop after about a week. Most pain will respond well to mild analgesics.

Infection A small amount of redness, bruising and swelling is normal. If, however, you develop a temperature, if the swelling does not go down, increases or becomes very painful, always seek medical advice.

Granulomas A benign (non-cancerous) lump may develop as a result of leakage of sperm from the cut end of the vas into the scrotal tissues resulting in an inflammatory reaction. This lump may be painful or sensitive to touch or pressure and is generally treated with anti-inflammatory agents. In a very small number of cases, sperm granulomas cause more serious complications; reversal of the vasectomy may be attempted to resolve this problem.

Epididymitis occurs when inflammation at the site of the vasectomy can causes swelling of the epididymus (the tightly-coiled tube connecting the efferent ducts from the rear of each testicle to its vas deferens). Swelling should subside within about one week.

Abscesses are rare; they are the result of infection from the operation, or may be picked up post-operatively.

Erectile dysfunction or decreased sexual desire can occur in the form of impotence, premature ejaculation or painful intercourse. The cause may be mostly psychological in nature; the vasectomy may exacerbate previous difficulties and problems between sexual partners. Counseling may be required to resolve difficulties.
Pregnancy Following a Vasectomy
In rare cases, pregnancy has occurred following vasectomy. The causes include a failure in the surgical procedure, the man not using additional contraceptive methods in the three months following the procedure, or complications following the vasectomy.

The U.S. Agency for International Development states that failure rates for vasectomies range from 0.2 to 0.4 percent. The Centers for Disease Control have estimated a probability of failure in 11 per 1,000 procedures over two years. Half of the failures occur in the first three months after the vasectomy. Recent research shows that men often do not go for follow-up semen analysis after their vasectomy.

I had one at about 35 after my wife and I had 2 kids. I don't regret it. My wife couldn't take the pill so we used condoms which I preferred not to use but other options were limited.

The procedure hurt because the prick of a doctor didn't wait long enough for the freezing to take. The recovery was fine. When they say rest then rest! A friend of mine went golfing the next day and one of his balls balloned to the size of a grapefruit - no shit.

I have not had one, but I also am interested in getting it done. However from your post you sound like your doing it before really thinking about it, and maybe for the wrong reasons.

At the age of 43 I feel like I'm a bit too old to have a baby. What child wants a dad who's 53 by the time they are 10? Having one now seem selfish to me. However you are young, and from the sound of it, in lust! As Hammer said one day you may want one, or two, hard as it sounds right now. Most of my girlfriends had kids from a prior relationship, and I was a happy "daddy" to them while I was with them. Please think it through a bit.

I had mine done when I was 26 but at that time, my wife had just given birth to my twin boys and I already had 2 step daughters so the doctor agreed to do the procedure. If it wasn't for the kids, he told me he wouldn't do it at all and probably no doc would.

As for your questions, I was sore for a couple days and was advised not to have sex for about 2 weeks but the second week was meant to "empty the gun". You'll be asked to go in for a final sperm count to make sure the procedure worked.

I wouldn't do it if you don't have kids. Seriously, you'll end up regretting it one day especially if she does want them. If she's the perfect woman for you, you'll loose her if she finds out what you did and she will.

I know your question was about vasectomies but I found the first part of your post more interesting. Let me try to understand you...

You met the perfect girl for yourself except for the fact that she wants children and you don't, and your solution is to go away for a week and have a vasectomy done in secret?!?!?!

I'm not sure I even understand how that would solve the problem.

Also, from the post you said your ex girlfriend has only been your ex for a couple days. Does that mean you have only known this new girl for a few days and already you are considering surgical procedures? I remember back in my day we waited until the third date to talk about irreversible reproductive surgeries.

I would have to agree with everyone else on this one, take a deep breath and forget about the vasectomy for the time being.

Pyratas, keep it simple ... cum on her face.

Sorry, bad taste ... any man who'll run off and get a secret vasectomy must truly be in love.

DON'T DO IT YET BABE!

Actually, Jim and Fritz asked the most important question that has been brought up in this thread. How does having a vasectomy so you can fuck this chick without getting her pregnant help you if she's really the person you want to spend the rest of your life with, but she wants kids? Once she finds out you don't want to, refuse to, and even took medical steps not to have kids, I'd say the relationship will end quickly.

I'm not kidding here either. My wife and I have two friends that are now divorced, but when we met them many years ago, they were a very happy couple. But, as the woman neared her mid thirties her biological clock started ticking and although none of the four of us had wanted kids before because we were too busy with our careers, she suddenly decided she wanted to have a kid. Unfortunately, the man didn't. She tried convincing him to no avail and they were divorced within a year. Within another year, she was remarried and pregnant.

If you really don't want kids, do the right thing and break off the relationship before it goes too far. It's not fair to her.

She's not the right girl for you if you are even thinking about pulling some shit like that and not telling her.

I discussed the issue with my doctor, he assured me there were doctors making a really good living(even by doctor's standards) reversing a vascetomy.

As everybody else on this thread has already said, the operation is not the real issue, the lack of communication in your relationship is. Men have an advantage over women in this issue. We can conceive kids until the day we die, be it 19 or 99. If she wants to have kids and you don't she is not perfect for you. If you do not want kids, you need to ask yourself why.

I will be going todo the same thing. BUT! i have 3 kids already and im 35. And my Fiance is much younger but does not want kids.

Now looking into the procedure there is a new one thats some sort of clamps. They can be reversed from what i rember reading. This maybe your best bet.

But to get it done and not tell her. With age comes wisdom and worse a little voice inside that tells you you did wrong. Thats my best advise on the not telling her part.

It's very true that this woman will probably leave you one day for someone who wants kids. Wanting kids is a VERY big thing for women, and while she may compromise now, she probably won't in the future when the initial "wow" of the relationship wears off.

It's also true that while you may not want kids now, that could change in the future. You're better to stick with condoms, or other forms of birth control until you are older.

I think at the very least, it's unwise to make this decision so quickly, all over this one girl, even if you really truly never want kids.

You never know, there may be another perfect girl in your future that changes your mind one day
