web stats preferences?
I have a site on a paid Linux host that has a really crappy web stats application. I want to know more info on my visitors. Can anyone recommend a decent (preferably open source) web stats program that I can install on my ISP's box. I was looking for something that I could upload to a folder on my site and then browse to a GUI configuration page, sort of like OpenAds. Anyone have any ideas, if not what does everyone else use. Thanks for the help. Shawn

I have heard that the FREE stats that Google offer do a great job and are not resource intensive so they should not slow you down.

Statcounter
Statcounter works really well and its free for the most part and is hidden so its not like sextracker where the viewer sees it when they look at the site.

As already noted here by other posters... StatCounter and Google Analytics, both offer very good tracking statistics... and IMO another attribute that's very important... neither of these free services amount to traffic leaks.

Analytics works great. I use it for clients but am too paranoid about giving Google my search data to use it on most of my sites.
Trace Watch is a good php stats program. If you're interested in watching your Spider Crawl data in detail you might want to try http://www.crawltrack.fr/
