Just wondering if you all have your sites prepped for mobile and the good and bad of it.

Do you just mirror your sites and do your php or do you build from scratch?

I wite the site in xhtml/php with css for the layout.

Then use php to detect mobile and change the stylesheet for the site, which in turn sets up the mobile layout.

It's comes down to the seporation of style from content.

So when the site is designed, we don't use tables for anything other than tabular content. Instead yo use div tags with unique ids or classes.

This creates a page that is completely white w/ blue link and black text.

Then you create 2 css files. 1 for the internet and 1 for mobile. (windows mobile was my target audiance)

You let the css files:
- create the layout of all your pages
- set up your font sizes
- set up all you colors

Once you have the 2 files, you can use a small bit of php to detect if the user is on mobile or not. Or you can just set up a subdomain and assume all the traffic going to it is mobile. Like mobile.mysite.com

The php just says:
if the user is on moblie use "mobile.css"
otherwise : use screen.css

The whole key is to not use tables for site layout.
Use Divs and css instead.

Sharkface makes a point I never thought about. Cams on mobile may be cool. Members could get a message when their favorite guy/girl is on-line and check her out right then.

As for standard porn on mobile, I don't see it being huge. People are getting excited about video on their phones but mainly out of the novelty IMHO. If phones had huge storage and huge bandwidth, I could see people downloading the porn on their mobile device for privacy, then playing it on their computer or TV.

Their was an ad for the iphone that showed how cool it is to watch youtube videos on the iphone. Personally, the only reason I look at youtube is because I'm stuck in front of a computer. When I'm away from the computer I never have the urge to watch a blurry video on a 1.5 inch screen. But hey, I'm the guy who just uses the free phone the wireless company gives you every year.
