Hosting Problems?
Hello - I recently launched my Adult Squirting blog and am not sure if I am getting straight information from my hosting company. I am not sure if I am having problems due to traffic or not. They are telling me I need to get a dedicated account for what I am trying to do? I understand that in time I may need this, but I can't believe I am pushing the envelope with traffic yet.
Here is a bit of history on it: I recently started getting a "Internal Server Error 500" after I would make a post, and would go to view my site. I get it frequently now when I go to the site to refresh it - so I am assuming surfers are getting it to. I also see lonnnngggg delays with small changes I make, it doesn't show for several minutes. I started out with the basic virtual hosting package, then Thursday after talking to them I upgraded to the next level, which gives me more "connections". The first package had 50 connections, then the new package is supposed to have 100. They told me that when a user connects, that each one user takes up 6 or 7 "connections", thus if I only have the base package, I can only handle 7 surfers at one time. So I upgraded to the 100 connections, but I don't understand these "connections" they talk about. I would think I should be able to handle more than 14 users? I am way under the limit in bandwidth - only about 350MB since it launched. To track stats, I have been using the Short Stat word press plugin, as well as now I added StatCounter to my front page. For yesterday, ShortStat showed 151 unique users, StatCounter showed 219 - so I am not sure how many for sure - but not a lot of uniques. While I have been working to get these numbers up, I continue to get this Internal Server Error on my main site. I recently started another blog on the same account, but have not listed it yet as I want to figure out what is causing this error. So I do not know if it is a WordPress issue, or a hosting issue. I will upgrade the account to the next level (one more grade before a Dedicated level - it is supposed to give me 150 "connections" - again I do not see how I can check this) if that will solve the problem, but I am not sure what the issue is. I am under the impression that "good traffic" would be around 700 uniques a day. If this were to happen, can you use Virtual hosting or do you have to go dedicated? Dedicated is quite a bit of coin for free site blogs that I want to do - unless they are converting - which they aren't yet. So any insight if it is my hosting company, or if it is too much traffic for my virtual hosting, my hosting company (one of the biggies), or maybe a Word Press issue? Or if there is another statistic I should be looking at to give me a better idea of what is going on. I am quite concerned to keep building if I am having trouble this early on with them. Thanks in advance. |

It doesn't sound right to me, but I don't know exaclty what you're doing (i.e vids or something even worse), and I'm certainly no expert at blogging. I can tell you this where I stand though.
I have one of the worst hosting companies out there and my least traffic generating blog brings in more uniques than you're talking about (via short stats). I also have databases with seven blogs linked to them. These are for the most part straight up blogs though with no long running video embeds or anything like that (large pics though on some). Usually when I do get the types of errors you're talking about it's because I have a gallery on someone like the hun and my bandwidth is being slammed and it affects whichever server that's happening on at the time. Someone will be able to help you better than me but it's Sunday so hang in there a bit.

Thanks PornPunk - Most of what I have is pics linking to my sponsors sites that contain the video. So I am not hosting much on the site as far as video. I did read here that I may need to attack some of my pics that are 200+k (only a few), most are 20k, but my bandwidth is actually at 450MB for the last 7 days. Which I don't think is much, but again, newbie here.
Also, this site has it's own word press database, I was thinking of sharing my other blogs, but this one in particular is all on its own. Thanks - I'll hang in here for more input. |

450 MB for the last 7 days?
Fuck dedicated, you should switch host. even at 450 MB a day you should be able to find hosting for that bandwidth for about 15 bucks a month that doesn't produce any errors. those connection stats sound new to me, who are you hosting with?

No pics just don't burn that much bandwidth no matter how big they are. Again I'm far from an expert but I have huge pics on my blogs and I get slammed sometimes. You're being told correctly about sizing pics, but large pics don't cause your type of errors. They'd have to be gigantic. It's something else, and if your host can't help you, I'd definitely be looking around. You don't go to dedicated servers for simple picture and text blogs. That's just insane.
I even have a couple videos embedded in a couple of my blogs.

I am not sure if going to the Premium is what I need to do? I don't understand these "connections" either. So I am cool with bandwidth, thanks for that. My site is squirting.hotpornstarlets.com as well. Curious if you guys hit it if you get the error on your end. Thanks guys |

hmm... I don't host with godaddy, but i know there are people here on the board that do.
If a connection is a "hit" then expect your index page to produce anywhere from 10-100 hits per unique load. that hosting plan sounds very cheap to me, I have to turn it over to the board here. Hopefully some godaddy clients can help more. I know that my host offers a 30 gig a month plan for 15 bucks a month that has no restrictions. You are looking at only about 15-20 gigs a month under your current traffic load.

Yeah - if you go to my site, I am curious if you get the error, try refreshing the main page or something. All I got is pics and links to galleries, nothing hosted but the pics.

I am building my second, but my plan was to have several subdomain blogs on this one domain, I thought I would be alright with the premium plan. Does that seem resonable?
I just don't think I am getting to the root of the problem with them. Is there another stat that I can pull that would help us? Thanks guys. |

I just went to your site and it looks pretty damn good to me. Have you emptied your cache lately? You have two side bars, content in the middle.
Also you do realize with Godaddy deluxe you're getting 1000 Gig a month so you're not even near being concerned yet. I'm not pumping them up. They suck. I've been very aggravated with them lately. But you should still double check before you start spending more than you really need to do yet.

i hit your profile and found the site. It loaded fine and fast for me, I am however on a very fast connection.
the site is starting to look nice. I would add some more shit to the sidebars, not necessarily banners, but a mix of banners and text links would be nice. why are you talking about live earth? I guess it could be a good way to get some strings, but it has nothing to do with "squirting porn stars".

Okay, I stand corrected. I just got what you're taking about. This is sort of the problem you have with godaddy. You're on a shared server and right now someone is getting hit, probably not you, but it's affecting to you.
This is one of the prices you pay for cheap bandwidth. I've been dealing with it a couple years. It will go away but no telling when it will happen again. A dedicated will fix this problem but I advise against it. I have four hosting accounts with them so when this happens I suck it up and work on another site(s). If this concerns you greatly I would go with another host, but like I said most likely it will go away. You can also try getting a second hosting acount and work another project from there to make sure I'm correct because if you're doing something else wrong, then the same thing will happen on another host, but you're not. It's most likely them. You got to suck it up or switch. Like I said, keep the bandwidth prices in mind. It's nice to have nice bandwidth, but it's expensive when you're starting out and not making any money. You now have 1000 Gig a month. Also someone might be hotlinking to you, because like balls said you shouldn't be wasting the amount of bandwidth you're wasting

As far as the other - I was told I shouldn't just have it full of gallery links, that it should have other "stuff" - maybe I missed the point of the suggestion. |

Well I empty my cache with this program called ace utilities so I forget the simple way it's down with the browser. Maybe balls can help out.
Yeah, I'm still trying to get your site back up. For all I know I'm doing it to you cause I got a gallery on the hun two days ago, but mines calming down now so I don't think it's me. That site though has just burned 500 Gig this month and that's nothing so that's how much you'd be paying with another host and I have three other hosts like that though. Your site will probably be running better tomorrow or later. You don't want dedicated from them because their support is even worse for that than virtual. I tried it and I know a little what I was doing but not enough and I was on my own entirely. I'd suck it up and buy a second account until you know a little more and then swap over to someone better because they are the cheapest but you get what you pay for. I began with them because I do a lot of galleries and needed that bandwidth.

pornpunk is right on target.
If you are on a shared host you can run into problems with the other accounts on your machine. This is where tech support comes into play. When my site is down I get on the horn and find out why. If its someone on my server running too many scripts or getting bombarded then the host kills them for me. I've run into this every few months. godaddy host a lot more accounts then my host so i'm sure that their response might not be dealt with in the same way. If you are planning on getting some massive hits and working a blog from several traffic angles, that you consiter a new plan or a different host. My virtual plan has worked for several TGPs, Blogs, freesites, and toplist. all on one virtual account and they all work fine.
