Google is insane for blogs
I know as Viking said, google isn't a god, but man do they have some weird shit going on. I did some experiments. Set up another total shit blog on a free host, stuffed it with keywords, probably too may according to their guidelines, I mean really overusing. Three days later it's gettting a lot more SE hits than a blog I've actualy been writing meaningful posts on and with stuff that I'm interested in and for which I paid more attention to design and content and which is on a domain I've owned since November 06. None of the posts on the bogus blog are in sup but the ones on my good blog are about 50%.
It seriously feels that they're changing everything in their goddamn Harry Potter wizardry around every second, plus just the other day I managed to pull a whole bunch of pages out of sup on another blog and now those and many others went back into sup this week! Aaargh! I'm liking those ask.com commercials but I think their algo is similar despite their noble educational campaign that 75% of surfers use google and it's a monopoly. But in goog's well or not so well intentioned efforts they're using against spamdexing they're screwing thigns up big time. Guess I'll try building garbage blogs for the next couple of days for some more traffic since they seem to be doing so well with the people who claim to be fighting against them. Jeez Louise!

Unfortunately I have to agree with you on this one. I also see lots of free hosted blogs and very low quality getting top spots in Google's SERPs and outranking quality useful sites.

Well I do know that google seems to like new blogs for a while. Putting you higher in the list for a couple weeks but then saying sorry your time is up for being new so back to the bottom. At least I have seen that.
Howver you are right, I find that a lot of keywords which I rank very high on there is always some free host blog beating me, usually like 2 years old and hasnt posted in 8 months.. drives me nuts

On the other hand I have this old ratty blog that looks like puke and even got knocked off google for a bit for reasons I haven't yet figure out. It's made up of nothing but feed pulls from hosts and it's getting me close to one thousand hits a day with about 95% uniques. I haven't been working it and forgot I even had it. If you ask me, the 15 minutes for this blogging thing is just about up.

Blogging will be around for a long time and probably for as long as there's an Internet. The fact that splogs may have a limited life does not bother me in the least. I don't build them and never will. IMO, they are nothing more than the new TGP and will be just about as effective. It still comes down to the people that prefer to build sites that need mass amounts of traffic to make money or the ones that prefer to do it with higher quality, lower traffic sites.
There's a chick over on Netpond that has 185 blogs and I'd be willing to bet she ain't making diddly from them. As for Google. My blog kicks ass on Google. I don't think it has anything to do with the type of blog, but rather the keywords and the SEO setup. Perhaps the splogs you're talking about are crammed with keywords and are set up better from an SEO standpoint than your 'good' blog.

Your blog seems to have a lot more to it than simply SEO optimization. I'm playing with a couple ideas that are non adult related I might try out, but can't figure why I should use a blog to create the sites. I do hear that all sites should have at least one rss feed these days.

Do you think it's blogs and new sites in general or the architecture of WP? I am not skilled enough for digging through the bowels of a WP template. Having said that, I've heard that some templates are better for SE than others. Again, I am not a programmer, but just wondering if anyone knows why a certain template works better than others?
I brought this up earlier with the idea of trying some blogs with joomla, which of course is not just for blogs but maybe something to experiment with? |

I think Google will catch on to the splogs over time but for now I think they have a place as a traffic generating tool. A real blog with original quality posts and lots of them should stand the test of time I think...
Just noticed that was my 700th post here! I am now 10% of the man Hammer is ;-)

It's simple to set up a few hundered targeted splogs, auto generated that Google simply loves.. You can even set each of these spam blogs on a subdomain and never even need to visit the blog to update or write new content.. It will all happen automatically.
Simply setup a redirect to your main blog and voila several thousand new visitors a day. |

Do you mean set up a subdomain, fill it with keywords but redirect it to your main blog and not get penalized for it?

I wouldn't set up a bunch of splogs and redirect them to a good blog. Google will bitch slap you for that sooner or later. I would find ways to link to the good blog to send traffic legitimately though.

I just wonder...
Why would you take youre targetted traffic (even if it's a "splog") and send that off to a general (even if it's a "good") blog? (BTW...any blog that in any way are trying to sell to it's visitors are per defina a "splog")
