Blog Move Screw Up - Need Info
I moved a domain to a different hosting account and inadvertantly deleted an entire blog. I reinstalled it on same url, but I'm basically reposting from scratch.
What are the ill results I should expect? Will I be blacklisted? Am I wasting my time reposting? Also, while we're on the subject, what are the consequences of deleting a post that's already been indexed. Thanks for the answers in advance.

I don't know about reposting an entire blog...
but i have ripped down about 20 blogs due to 2257 and I still get google strings for the post that were indexed. It has not affected my blogs that survived on the same domain.

Thanks.
Not much else I can do at this point except repost (actually it will be entirely new posts because don't have old info). Screwed up copying my database info

2257 has nothing to do with a warning page, it's a record keeping law you should be complying with if you live in the U.S. I suggest you do some quick research.
It's unfortunate that you trashed your blog but I'd just start with new posts if I was you. Unless you get lucky and can retrieve some of the page from cache.

But about 2257? Has anyone been prosecuted on this yet. I know there are child pornography cases all the time but that's an entirely different thing right? I'll look into this more. I have before but think I'm missing something since so many people who know what they're doing appear concerned about it. Thanks for the reply, Hammer

I very much doubt you will be blacklisted since changing a page or site is not illegal according to google (yet). You may lose ranking but you won't be blacklisted.
If you had any recip links I would make sure to get those back up first. Your recip partners may notice you have pulled their links and in return pull yours. Your loss of links will hurt you more than anything. |

I can't imagine why you would be blacklisted by Google for removing pages, accidentally or on purpose.
To my knowledge no one has been prosecuted for a 2257 violation, well, except for Joe Francis from Girls Gone Wild. ![]() There have been 19 FBI inspections so far, and so far, all have been actual producers and not just webmasters.

That is an interesting case though. Do you know if there's any outcome yet? I hate to get opinionated and know the line has to be drawn somewhere, but I don't see going after him in those conditions as protecting children in any form whatsoever.

He was unable to prove the age of two models because he did not have the proper records.
I guess if one of the girls had been your daughter you'd have a different opinion of whether or not it protects children from being exploited by someone like Joe Francis. If the girls were 16 or 17 it would be a case of child porn. Child porn is not strictly a 10 year being videotaped by pedophiles, it's anyone under the age of 18 performing in porn.

Also there's a major difference between YOUR DAUGHTER and a girl who chooses a certain profession either because she wants to or because she feels she has to (which I have trouble swallowing). I'm sorry but the only difference I see between Joe Francis and Hugh Hefner is an advancement of culture (or a regression depending on perspective). Definitely If I had a daughter I'd keep her out of anything to do with lots of things I've done. I just see a Judas Goat where Joe Francis is concerned and a test for the government. If everybody's daughters were kept out of this they'd be no business

I'm late to the party (story of my life!) but one thing you can do if your pages no longer exist is set up a custom error page.
Most web hosting companies allow you to create your own 404 page, the page that users see when a page cannot be found. Search engines may just ignore the error page, then again, they may not and it certainly can't hurt. At the very least you can include your own text and links there instead of the lame default pages most web hosting providers display. And I didn't notice anyone say it, but: this time make sure you have backups!!!

better late than never, Boodaman. I've actually already done the later of what you suggested and just tossed up some pages with links back to main domain pages.
Still trying to get this blogging thing down so I'm keeping a few up with various templates and meta tagging plug ins and procedures to track the differences and what works better. For some reason I figure things out better with trial and error even though it costs me time and money, I seem to learn more from things that don't work than things that do
