Affiliate Program Content Question
Hello Everyone
I have noticed that some of the big sites seem to have content posted that I don't have access to in my affiliate area. Mainly Playboy (and other programs and content) and recent galleries of Tiffany Selby and Brittany Binger. I have seen both at other sites, but I have no such content available in my WM Affiliate area. Does anyone know why? Is it because I am a newbie and my site does not have a proven track record of sales and traffic? Is it because the sites may be actually purchasing the content? I was also wondering if I should email the Playboy ( and other) program admins and ask? I don't really want to give away the site names. I could, of course, just copy the pics and use them, but that would be stolen content would it not? After all, Playboy did not specifically authorize me to use Tiffany Selby (for example) and others. At least, these particular women are not available in my affiliate downloadable and hosted content. Could someone please give me some guidance on this? Thanks, Robert

I have found that many sponsors GLADLY give you content if you just ask. A lot of smaller sites even give you free full access for a number of hours/days/month, etc.
What I would do (if you haven't) is build a good looking gallery with content that you DO have, then email the sponsor, send them your example --Basically saying "this is what I can do for YOU, but I need more material to continue." --Remember, they want to make money just like you do! Start your salesmanship now (even with your sponsors), as you'll need it for everything else you do in this biz! Good Luck! --Pyratas PS, You're speaking of bigger Sponsors than I deal with, but as far as using pics/videos I find.....I DO do it, but only for sponsors that I wouldn't feel too bad about giving me the boot if they got pissed. But, please DO NOT do the above (using content you found/downloaded) until you get advice from the Pro Webmasters on this board, hehe. They will almost certainly tell you NOT to do it.

You definitely shouldn't just take it from other sites and use it, because as you said, it's stealing.
I think emailing the sponsor is a good idea. Ask them if you can get access to that content to promote their site and see what they say. It's possible that the other webmasters have purchased it though. |

Thanks for the advice and comments. Its possible too that the sites I see the content on have themselves stolen it, which is why I didn't want to give away names-don't want to make accusations without grounds or evidence.
The content issue of why they can use certain models and I don't have access to them is confusing though. As for myself, I will only use content I am authorized to use.

Monica is correct. I purchase content to promote sites that do not offer me enough content but have good conversion and payout. This content is not owned by the sponsor so if you were to steal it you actually wouldn't be stealing from me, but the people I licenced the content from. What would you do with a lawsuit from a company you've never heard of, because you decided to make your own rules and just take content because someone else is using it to promote the same sponsor?

I just sent an email to the sponsor asking if I needed to purchase the more recent content or if there were traffic and sales criteria that have to be met first. Hopefully I will hear something back.
In the meantime I will use what they let me have and do the best I can Thanks for the responses I have posted my site in the critics section but nobody has posted any reply. I would really appreciate someone taking a look at it. Its my "practice site" and I need some help on it.

If i were you, i would have used the content available for a start.
Even if it is posted a million times before, and are all over the internet, it is quite possible to make some money out of it. When you are on a roll, and the sign up's start to rolling in, then it is time to write to the sponsor and ask for more exclusive rights. Some sponsors allso give out the newest content to the best affiliates first, wich IMO is quite sensible, and then post it in the affiliate area for everyone to grab it. If you are loking for exclusive and not-overused content i would go for smaller sponsors, and then ask them for a free pass to their site so you can grab you're own content. Most of them are more then happy to provide you with anything you ask for.(Cuz there are just too many sponsors, and starting to be a lack of good, serious affiliates).

Thanks everybody.
The sponsor emailed me back within 30 minutes and told me that the content was being used illegally. Apparantly, a membership was purchased and the content in the members area was being used. In any event, the sponsor told me that the affiliate content available was the same for everone. I assume thats true, but somehow I am a little skeptical. Like perhaps the sponsor may just turn a blind eye if the afiliate is a really good one and sends lots of signups. Guess I will wait and see. Thanks for responding everyone. Viking I may try that smaller sponsor or even purchased content way. Right now though, I am studying the Academy and working on a site.
