Pop ups

in a cozy academy article someone said that when you provide a link to someones site that you're trading traffic with you should provide a popup so that the surfer can easily return to your site. i took this advice and put the "target_blank" tag attatched to all of the links on my tgp. however, someone just told me that providing a popup to all of my links is a bad idea since the popup annoys the surfer. could someone please give me advice on this matter?

As a newbie, I have all my links open in a new window. I think surfers expect to be taken to a new window when clicking a link (unless of course its an internal link to another page in your site). Annoying popups are the additonal ,unexpected ones, that open when you click a link.

I disagree, opening pages in other windows is a good way to dis-interest your surfer. I open all my gallery links and page links in the same window unless its for a traffic trade, toplist, or other traffic hole. Trust me your surfers know how to use a back button.

Well, I open all my traffic trades in new windows and I keep all my internal pages in the same window.

Sponsors pages I open in a new window, but I've been thinking about that, and reading your advice, perhaps I'll see if my conversions improve by keeping them in the same window.

I guess with sponsors, if they dont decide to join up, the surfer will probably be after more free stuff and come back to your site anway (ie press the back arrow key). However when you are linking to a trade site, if its as good or better than yours they will stick with that or click on his links, either way they won't come back to your site unless yours is still in the browser.

I used to think the same as you but when you think about it, most surfers dont use tabs and once you introduce them you give the surfer the option to just close you out. by opening in the same window, they either have to explore your sponsor more, hit back to see your site, or manually type in a url.

I'd have to say the rule I go by is, if i can make money off of it then it opens in the same window. If not then I'll target=_blank

The most important thing on a TGP(especially a fake one) is to produce traffic.
You should open the gallery links in a new window(it is not a pop up), and if you have some direct links, be sure to add a pop-up to a toplist or anything else that can produce traffic for you.

Some TGP's have direct links to all their galleries, but most of them do have huge traffic, and the surfer know them and how to navigate on them.

I agree with Gazza and would recommend opening all off site links in new windows and all onsite links in the same window.

Opening a page in a new window is not a popup though.

The feedback from everyone is fantastic. the reason i decided to have my links open in new windows derives from my experience as a consumer. before i decided to pursue internet porn, as a broke college student, i regularly visited two sites: freeones and pornstargals. i love the content on freeones but i'm so lazy that i used to hate to hit the back button more than once so i would be disuaded to revisit freeones. on the other hand, pornstargals' links open to new windows which i would discard to still find the main psg page still present. to view things from the perspective of the freeones webmaster, i can understand why he would want the surfer to "get lost" in his sponsors' sites, which evokes ball's point about hoping that the surfer becomes immersed in the site of a sponsor that converts well. i'm glad i asked for feedback on this matter here.

I am sorry, I missed the word "tgp" in the initial post. I would agree with all others advise pertaining to a tgp.

My advise was regarding blogs, freesites, and galleries.
