SE Strings?
After 2 months my blog is starting to show some real search engine strings.
My top string is "Free Gothic Porn" my third referal string is just "Gothic Porn" should I be concentrating on the "Free" string? Will this just produce surfers that will never pay or is it a good way to get some anxious surfers interested?

If someone types the word "free" it probably means they have no intention of spending money, or just have no money to spend.
These people may end up spending money but the conversion will probably be a bit lower than searches who don't use the "free" qualifier. I would say don't abandon the search string but don't make it your number 1 focus for anchor text, linking, ect. |

I agree with Jim. Dont' go out of your way to attract traffic that is actively looking for something 'free'.

i don't actively add the string "Free Gothic Porn". I do however use "Gothic Porn" regularly. I think the "free" part of the string is coming from my "free gallery" link i put in most every post.

I think we should all avoid using free as much as possible. There is the argument that the "free" moniker will entice people to buy. This may be true in other industries but I don't think it helps as far as porn goes. The porn surfer is a savvy fucker. I've been spending a bit of time checking out message boards, straight, gay, fetish, etc. If anyone mentions something about a 'great site' or 'hot chick' or 'great porn' and posts a link it's an astounding 90%+ of the time to rapidshare/torrent or xporn, pornotube, youporn, etc. Not to mention skin video - I just saw that site for the first time and I can't believe it even exists!
The first question that a good (male) friend of mine told me when I started to dabble in this was: "do people still pay for porn?" Well we're all making sales, whether many or few, so people obviously do, but we have to think of ways of weaning them off the free lunch mentality. |
