SE conversion / surfer psychology poll
I just want to hear your opinions about this.
The general consensus is that SE traffic converts best. Can we assume that this is because the surfer, the googler, is a noob to free porn otherwise he would drop his drawers, go to the hun or askjolene and jack off to his heart's content? I know that its probably futile to think too much about this stuff when you're peddling someone else's smut. (With original content, some market research and demo research is probably much more important). Any thoughts? |

Personally I think SE traffic is nowhere near as valuable as it once was and I think the seasoned surfers are using Google more and more to find free porn. I think blog traffic converts the best now. Of course much of that traffic is coming from the SEs.

Well... I had a really long, detailed response typed out.. then my power went out just before I hit send.. so now you get the condensed version.
Surfers are smarter than they used to be. The typical 18 year old (our youngest potential customer) is now someone who has grown up with the internet. They know how to find what they want online for free. They know all the old tricks webmasters often use to gain traffic. They grew up using the search engines, and are adept at using them. We have to take all this into consideration these days. The trick is to figure out exactly how and why the sites you mentioned still continue to be the default sites that surfers head for. Part of the answer is the fact that they have simply been around a long time, but there is a lot more to it than that. Once you have that figured out, you need to use that knowledge to adjust your strategy accordingly. |

Also, an experienced surfer may first be exposed to a site via a TGP then use google to find out more, perhaps by typing in "[sponsor name] reviews" or something similar. Either way, the user is activley searching out what you are offering which will always convert better. |

I guess we'll never figure it out, nor should we waste too much time on it (though I like to) But Jim you are correct - I guess what we're betting on via google is
1. Surfer will be seeking a particular product (niche, specific boy/girl, specific site, fetish, etc.) 2. He will eventually get sick of aimlessly surfing without getting to the real deal and finally break out the plastic in utter frustration/desperation. As Hammer pointed out re that gay blog that I was asking about - queerclick - they post all the pics right on the blog, which take you straight to the signup page of the sponsor, without going through fhgs and other gallery pages. They keep the pics small but not too small and it is just the right amount of a perfect tease. I've seen similar stuff with straight blogs also but I'm going to stop now before this gets derailed into yet another highly informative 2257 thread. On another note, I'm getting signups from gay traffic but then I also find stuff on the message boards that reads like this, for example: "OMG! As if I didn't think pussy was already ugly enough. And by ugly I mean UGLY! The shape and look of a pussy is an example of nature's ability to make mistakes." Christ on a crutch, man! I think shemale traffic is my best bet with the bi niche b/c this seems to be over 75% of the sentiment about pussy from gay guys. I remember you, Jim telling me this about the shemale guys being very much against being considered gay but I thought the bisexual surfer would be in the gay crowd as well! Or at least more of them. Who knew! I've been checking out the gay webmaster forums and none of those guys can make heads or tails out of bi stuff. Maybe I will be the one to find a solution. - Long live pussy!
