Why comments are good on blogs

Most of the porn blogs I see have comments turned off and since lots of them are just rss feed fed blogs I understand why. But, for those of you with real blogs, I'd like to suggest that you allow comments and here's why...

I don't know for sure if it will still be by the time you read this, but right now, a post on my blog about a death toll counter comes up #1 for this search string; ' world health organization and abortion '.

The post itself contains the words 'world health organization', but I never actually talked about abortion in the post itself, that was brought up by the commentors. So, as you can see, the keywords in the comments are important to the SEO of the post.

EDIT: I just checked and it's on the top of page 2 now, but still sending traffic.

The same story comes up #9 for 'people who have died for a cause' and again, those keywords appear in the comments, not my original post.

I've found that spam can be really hard to cope with on blogs.... but then I got the Akismet plugin for wordpress, and haven't heard a peep since.

I agree that if you are running a real blog that is more than just daily gallery post comments would be a great addition.

Although, for my specific blog (splog) I'm sure it would turn into more hastle then it is worth.

Spam is not an issue with WP because there are a couple of extremely good, idiot-proof filters that eliminate it almost completely.

Like I said, there would really be no point on a splog because one rarely writes anything thought provoking on a blog like that, but then again, if you don't have at least one real blog, you're missing the boat, IMO.

I've tried most of them, including Akisment, but Spam Karma has proved nearly flawless. http://unknowngenius.com/blog/wordpress/spam-karma/

I also set my WP comment setting to send any comments with more than one URL, to the moderation cue.

I get a lot of e-mails but very few comments

Nice blog Hammer, and judging from the number of comments being made on it , it must get a zillion hits daily. Is it too nosey to ask if you built that traffic up through your other adult sites?

The traffic is growing nicely, but I've got a long way to go before it's getting a zillion hits.

I've actually kept this site completely segregated from any adult sites I do. The site is definitely not for children, but it's not adult in nature and since I use Google Adsense and other advertisers that won't deal with adult, I'm very careful about who I link to and what I show on the site.

One of the advantages of a mainstream blog is that there are lots of ways to generate traffic that aren't open to porn blogs, like Digg, Technorati, StumbleUpon, MyBlogLog, De.licio.us, Reddit, and many more.

Most of the comments I get are shit, but anytime I have someone actually contributing I allow it. Hell, let em build the page is what I say. I also edit comments slightly, just to protect the commentor. People put in their cell phone numbers and stuff, think they are talkng to the models directly. I don't let that fly.

Hi folks, I would have thought the SE's would have spyders that check the URL's on comments to see if they are genuine or not.
