Hard Drive Crash
Well my hard drive bit the dust the other day, and man, I have some handy hints for you guys that will save you a LOT of pain some day.
Hint #1: create backups regularly Hint #2: CREATE BACKUPS REGULARLY Hint #3: Before paying some tech dude lots of money for data recovery, try what I did... download a copy of Damn Small Linux-N onto a disc, boot your computer with it, and mount your old harddrive and see if any of the information is accessible. You can burn anything you find there onto disc. If that works, no need to pay anyone! Hooray for Linux |

Hi CM, Why is it the damn things don't give you a warning when they are about ready to crash? Leave us with just enough time to back-up our stuff!

Almost all of my files were backed up on a server, but what I was really hoping to get were a bunch of photos that I didn't have backed up anywhere else.
I need to start backing up things like that. My harddrive didn't give me any warning at all... it was out of the blue, my computer just *poof*, shut down. |
