Giving up WoW

Well, after playing since 1 month after release, I am giving up World of Warcraft. I used to be HIGHLY addicted to the game but after getting my feet wet into the webmaster gig, I have to say this is WAY more fun.

Tonight, I logged into the game, ran about 5 steps, then logged out to work on a new blog. Canceling subscription.

Feels good, like giving up smoking... wait a sec

I got a free trial to WOW and didn't even bother installing it because I knew I would get addicted.

Soon after I started working for myself I had to give up all PC and console games because they took up too much of my time. It sucks once in a blue moon when I hear about the latest and greatest game, but otherwise, I don't miss it.

SweetMartini, you were smart in not starting. I've seen some relationships go the way of the toilet from WoW and it is highly addictive.

But all this now is giving me more enjoyment so I have found the WoW killer!

good for you... but i think we should all give ourselves time to enjoy the little things like computer/console games. i love games like God Of War (still haven't gotten the sequel, but i'm on it as soon as i get back to the states). you just have to be much better at time management when you have a vice like that.

Any interest I may have had in WoW when it first came out was completely obliterated when I first moved in with my (former) roommates.

They'd sit at their desk, 3 feet apart, and talk to eachother on a headset. And after a month of watching them come home from their job (at an internet company), hop right back on to their home PCs, play til 2 in the morning, and then get back up and do it all over again. When one of them said "Let's call into work and say we're 'sick' - We can have a 3-day weekend for questing!" I knew I had to get out of there.

Those games are crazy addictive. The funny thing is even people who think they would never even play video games, they get hooked the worst once they start.

Most people you meet on those games play at lease 4 hours a day and most are on all day long.

I never played WoW but started playing a game called EVE which is a MMO like WoW but in space and instead of guilds you have corps. There are thousands of solar systems and planets, each with there own markets and corp wars going on, it's really quite amazing.

After about a month I was playing like 6 hours at a time and the people in my corp would be playing even more. After a month I had to stop. They are fun but WAY too time consuming.

Now I'm just back to the good old FPS games. Nothing like shooting someone with a rocket launcher after a hard day to make you feel better.

A lot of my friends have been claimed by the whole Warcraft experience. I don't hear much from them anymore, because I don't play (stupid piece of crap computer simply won't run it for some reason... which is probobly lucky for me.)
The game is far too addictive for people. It becomes an obsession for almost everyone who plays it. I just can't allow myself to get involved in something that is going to consume so many hours of my life.
I do spend quite a bit of time playing MapleStory. Its a cool little game that can become addictive if your not careful. I try to play for about 45 minutes each day, but force myself to turn it off after that. I just can't make money when I'm screwing around with games.
